I am not a novice cook. The onions ranged from almost raw to burnt so into the compost pile they went. Tried a second time, less heat and more frequent tossing; better but not great. Beans were perfectly cooked, and the sauce looked and tasted great. But when it all went together, it was not a pretty sight. Fortunately it tasted OK and folks ate it, but there were lots of leftovers.

A friend came up with the perfect solution: we put the whole mess into a food processor with 4 ounces of softened Neufchatel cheese and pureed the heck out of it. Heated it to simmering in the microwave and served it with lightly salted pita chips. Now THAT was a winner!

My family devoured this recipe last year for Christmas! I do have to agree that the onions take some tweaking. USE THE STORE CAN ONIONS! They were a little too difficult to try and master for me, although they came out tasty, way too much work. This year I will use the canned onions that I found at Trader Joes and since I am vegetarian, think I'll try substituting vegetable broth with some worchester sauce instead. Overall DELICIOUS!

This wasn't as good as it smelled. It reminded me of the creamed mushrooms that my grammy used to make, except, she used sour cream instead of half and half and flour, and she used shallots instead of garlic and onions. I think if I were to make this again I'd make my grammy's mushrooms and add the green beans. The sour cream has so much more flavor than half and half and flour!

Actually onions are a problem and I don’t want to spray oil all over the place. Biggest problem: I am appalled by the shabby shabby shabby new setup on recipes. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE to copy and save a recipe without all the STUPID hyperlinks on such words as pan, boil, whisk, etc. FOOD NETWORK IS INTERESTED IN SELLING SELLING SELLING, ok fine, but it's now totally obnoxious and ridiculous.

I read everyones comments... did anyone consider turning down the temp?? I had to laugh a little. They were burnt cause its to hot for an onion with no moister. Preheat oven at 450' So I did one half onion halved (into quarters then thinly sliced (did that so the onions werent so crouded and cooked evenly. Keep the same flour panko mix. Spray bottom of baking sheet with olive spray. check and flip around about every 6 to 9 mins. Do about 4 times during the 30 mins. I noticed it starting to burn slighly on the ends about half way into baking so i sparyed the top of the onions to get some moister back on. Hense preventing further burning. That should do it, I looking at mine right now and they are perfect. Everything else is a total win! Best of luck
