Wow, this is delicious. Everyone loved the dip. This is the second amazing recipe I've tried of Alton Brown's. The other is his cocoa brownies. You have to try them if you haven't. This dip was amazing, and I will never ever buy the package stuff again. It is so easy, and most likely you already have the ingredients at home.

When I read Altons recipe for this.....I immediatley thought how come I didn't think of this? Too many times, like many of the other readers I get a mix and just add the sour cream salt, pepper and serve. How boring! The carmelization of the onions added great flavor. This is really good onion dip and the only one I ever made by scratch. You must make this, it's easy, it's too easy!! The amount of onions is perfect. I did use less mayo and kicked up the spices just a bit more than suggested. A true onion dip - no question!

Wow, this is a winner! What an easy and delicious recipe! I made this for a party this past weekend and everyone raved about it and requested the recipe. Since my sister is allergic to MSG, I had to find an alternative to the box mix and this is definitely it! I will be making this for every party I either have or attend. Thank you!

We have a winner!!! Made this for a birthday party and thought it tasted even better than that packaged mix we all group up with. DEFINITELY make it the day before to allow the onions and other flavorings to reach their full potential. I used low-fat Greek yogurt and did not use any mayonnaise; otherwise, did not change anything else. Will never buy the packaged stuff again!

Two words: Add Bacon. :
I made two versions of this dip for Thanksgiving. One just as the recipe called for, maybe a little extra garlic powder. The second, I added a few strips of cooked and chopped applewood smoked bacon. Both were made the night before and both were absolutely awesome. Except one was completely devoured and one was just halfway. Yep, bacon wins. Making the bacon version right now for Superbowl Party.

So easy! I'll never buy packaged onion dip again! I did add extra onion to it to make it more of an onion flavor
