OH MY GOSH! 1st, do yourself a favor and double the onions (at minimum. I made a double batch and went with about 7 cups of vidalia onions. 2nd, get twice the bags of chips you think you'll need. At one point we were scrouning through the pantry to find more things to dip.

Easy to make great with veggies and I made it with light sc and mayo so it was less calories. Flavors were simple and tasty

I used canola oil & white onion - it's what I had, lowfat mayo and regular sour cream.
Hard to stop eating it! Good thing I'm almost out of chips. :

I have always bought french onion dip at the store~really never thought about making it from scratch. Now after making Alton's recipe~I will never buy it again! This is rich and creamy dip and it is delicious!
