Wow, this is a winner! What an easy and delicious recipe! I made this for a party this past weekend and everyone raved about it and requested the recipe. Since my sister is allergic to MSG, I had to find an alternative to the box mix and this is definitely it! I will be making this for every party I either have or attend. Thank you!

We have a winner!!! Made this for a birthday party and thought it tasted even better than that packaged mix we all group up with. DEFINITELY make it the day before to allow the onions and other flavorings to reach their full potential. I used low-fat Greek yogurt and did not use any mayonnaise; otherwise, did not change anything else. Will never buy the packaged stuff again!

    Two words: Add Bacon. :

I made two versions of this dip for Thanksgiving. One just as the recipe called for, maybe a little extra garlic powder. The second, I added a few strips of cooked and chopped applewood smoked bacon. Both were made the night before and both were absolutely awesome. Except one was completely devoured and one was just halfway. Yep, bacon wins. Making the bacon version right now for Superbowl Party.

So easy! I'll never buy packaged onion dip again! I did add extra onion to it to make it more of an onion flavor

It was good - the carmelized onions gave a fantastic flavor - but I thought it was a little bland. However, this may be because I halved the recipe and didn't use the right ratio of mayo/sour cream to onions, and I used low fat mayo and sour cream. Next time i'll use a bit more onion and maybe more garlic powder and see how it goes.
