I made this for my 18 year old son and his friends. They loved it (even tho I substituted the sour cream with plain Greek yogurt.

This recipe is wonderful! The sweet caramelized onions and the tangy sour cream are perfect. Someday Alton Brown and I are going to run away together to an island in the Caribbean where he can teach me the science behind packing a picnic cooler.

Turned out great! Next time I'm going to try making it with nonfat greek yogurt instead of mayonnaise and sour cream to be a little healthier. After using this recipe, I will never use one of those dry soup mixes again. So easy.

I made this dip for my boyfriends' surprise birthday party and all I can say is, it's a good thing I doubled the recipe. It was the first thing to go! Everyone was going crazy over it, said it was the best onion dip they ever tasted! As some other reviewers have said, I too, added more onions and a little extra garlic powder. I also made it two days ahead to let all the goodness have a chance to marry!! A definite keeper!!!

I had a hankering for onion dip and thought I'd try this recipe. At first, I wasn't thrilled. It tasted too much like mayonnaise. But I let it sit overnight and I have to say, my opinion has changed. The onions had a chance to meld with the other ingredients and sweeten everything up. I must also add that I halved this recipe and ended up using the full amount of onions, just because I like onions. I highly recommend this. Lots of onion flavor. Very good!

I hate to say this, but I really disliked this recipe. This is the first time I've ever been this disappointed by Good Eats. The dip, prepared exactly as written, has an extremely overpowering mayonnaise taste. I tried cooking up a few more onions and adding them to the mix to detract from the mayo flavor, but to no avail. I may try this technique again using all sour cream or perhaps some mixture of sour cream and Greek yogurt. I think the tangy flavor of the yogurt would pair nicely with the sweet caramelized onions.
