Thank you Alton! Loved this recipe, I got tons of compliments when I made this for a Superbowl Party. No more soup mix dip!

I thought the taste was a big nothing. I followed the recipe to the letter. However, I added 1/4 diced raw onion, extra garlic powder and extra white pepper. And, believe it or not, to that I also added 1/2 envelope of dry onion soup mix. NOW, it had some taste to it. But I liked the general base of the recipe, so from now on I will add the extras to make it my own.

I cut down the mayo and added more onions. The dip was fantastic! Never again can I eat store bought dip. This is the only way to go. Refreshing and delicous!

I didn't have any mayo in the house, so, rather than take the time to make some, I used Miracle Whip. Don't make this substitution! It makes the dip way too sweet, and the MW flavor is cloying and overwhelming. I added some Greek yogurt (I doubled the onions so there was room for it and more seasoning; I'm hoping that, tomorrow, when the flavors marry some, it'll be better. I think I may have had some bitter onions, as well; I've been having that problem with my local grocery. I also tried adding some bacon, but the MW flavor is just so pervasive, I don't know if this will be good for anything but sandwich spread, in the end. Don't be like me! Sub with yogurt or more sour cream, or even a little cream cheese might be good, or make some fresh mayo, but no MW!

GREAT dip. And tastes even better when you make it a couple days in advance. Only thing I would change, season your onions when you saute them (not too much though.

I didn't care for the mayo taste of this. Next time Im gonna try adding more sour cream and just deleting the mayo. But it did have a fresh taste, compared to the onion soup powder mix, or the Helluva dips.
