Best oatmeal ever! I used dried apples and apricots and frozen, unsweetened peaches...added vanilla, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, 1/2 stick butter, and a pinch of salt. I set the crockpot to cook on low for 8 hours and added more water and turned it back to low for about 45 minutes in the AM to adjust the consistency. Use a liner to avoid scorching on the bottom. I drizzled cream on top (very rich and it was to die for! This was special for Christmas so I would omit butter and switch to almond milk for everyday goodness. I will definitely make this again!

Excellent. We followed the recipe (omitting figs because we're not partial to them and woke up to amazing smells and taste! We've needed to thin the oatmeal out with additional milk and have been feasting on it for the past 2 mornings. A definite keeper.

Fabulous! I like it with blueberries better than figs, but yummy.

My Crock Pot is less than a year old. I'm glad I read through the comments on this recipe. I put my Crock Pot on "Warm" for the night and the oatmeal came out perfect. It has been a couple of days now and the leftovers are still great. I will definitely make this again, but will substitute some other dried fruit for the figs. No one really cared for them, and I'm not sure they imparted much flavor besides. My husband has requested a bacon and maple oatmeal next time... we'll see.

My kitchen smelled heavenly this morning. This is a simple, healthy breakfast. I added a little less water, because I didn't have figs on hand. It was a bit crusty at the bottom, so I probably could of used the full amount the recipe called for. I now have breakfast ready to go for the rest of the week. Will make this again!

I didn't have the dried fruit so I followed the rest of the recipe anyway except I have a five quart Rival and really like oatmeal and trust Alton totally so I doubled it. I like maple, brown sugar and cinnamon so I added some to the recipe. I left it on low and went to bed. It was a little soupy when I got up so I turned it up to high for about 30 minutes. The reason for the soupyness wasn't the slow cooker, it was because I hadn't used the dried fruit which would have absorbed some of the liquid, but the higher temperature took care of that. I forgot to say I misted my crock pot with olive oil before adding the ingredients, no cleanup problems and it doesn't affect the flavor. I added fresh blueberries to my bowl and it was the best oatmeal I've ever had. Thanks Alton you're the best and I'm pulling for your team on Next Food Network Star.

My husband and I saw this on a rerun of Good Eats. The very next day we went to the grocery store to grab the ingredients. He made a batch with cinnamon and raisins, and I made one the next night with cinnamon, dried cranberries, and dried blueberries. It was oatmeal perfection! I can't wait to try other variations of this recipe! Seriously, it's a fast, easy, hot breakfast, and a lot healthier than a lot of other fast breakfast options.

I've been eating this recipe for a few weeks now. I absolutely love it.I change up the ingredients from time to time, adding apples, cinnamon, raisins, etc.I haven't changed anything else in my diet except these oats and I've lost a few pounds.(pretty sure its from the large amounts of fiber combing out my system Plus, I'm not hungry for hours after breakfast now.If you use apples and cinnamon in with the oats and leave them to cook overnight you house will smell like apple pie when you wake up in the morning.Better than the smell of my morning coffee.
