Don't bother with a useless crockpot. This recipe works much better in a very heavy stone or iron pot with a tight fitting lid. Cook in a very low oven. Perfect every time!

Made this last night for my big family and everyone loved it. I used dried cherries and apples; it was delicious!
It tastes just like fruit crisp!

I used to get up and go to work without breakfast.
Since my wife started making this i have been eating breakfast again. Its ready when i get up, and the smell draws me to breakfast.

I'm giving it a middling review now, because I just saw it this morning and haven't had it yet, but I had an inspiration. Being a single person, I didn't want to make the quantity he made, so I knew it would overcook in my crockpot. I looked at one of those little dipper crockpots, but somehow I just knew that wouldn't heat to the proper temperature either. So tomorrow morning I'm going to try it using a rice cooker. I'll let you know if it works.

I think my crockpot is not as good as Alton's. The first time I made it (according to recipe, it burnt. I figured it was a problem of my crockpot not having as low a setting. What works for my Rival pot with the plastic cover is about 5 1/2 cups of liquid cooked on low for only 7 hours.

It sounds so wonderful and I want it to work so badly! I have a 6 qt Rival smartpot and it always burns, even after just a few hours on low. I have tried every alteration I can think of to get it to work, but no luck. I am sure it must be my crock pot and not the recipe that is the problem.

I tried to alter the recipe to make less oatmeal but it doesn't work out as well so you are better off making the full amount and saving the rest for the next morning. this is very tasty and so easy!

This recipe is so easy!!! The hardest part is finding the steel cut oats. It is great when you have overnight guests. You start it when you go to bed and in the morning you have a great healthy and hearty breakfast all ready. Just serve with your favorite toppings and enjoy. Your guests will be very impressed and happy.
