This is great. I make a double batch of this every week or two and have it for breakfast daily. I've only ever had a problem "burning" the oats in the corner of the pot, which I don't see as that big of a deal. I found dried strawberries, tried them in this recipe, and have yet to try another fruit. ONE TIP: add the fruit to the hot oats at the end of the cook cycle, recover, and let sit for a while. Otherwise, depending on the fruit you use, all of the color can be sucked out and the flavor disperses to a point where you can barely notice it.

So sad. By reading previous reviews, I think it might have been my slow cooker. I put it in the crockpot on low, but 2 hours later it started to burn around the edges. So, I turned it down to 'keep warm.' By morning, the oats had disintegrated, and it was a nasty pot of mush. The dog wouldn't even eat it. I'm very sad because I had such high expectations. Any suggestions?

Fabulous way to cook oatmeal! Very creamy, and not at all burned. I did cook it on the warm setting after reading all the other reviews, and it was perfect after 8 hours. I did not use any fruit(DH likes it plain, but I did add brown sugar and a little cinnamon in the finished product, very yummy as my hubby said. Great recipie!

What a treat to wake up to this morning! The texture is wonderful, and the flavor is very satisfying. To amymbrush - can you give more specifics on making the muffins? How much of each ingredient did you use? Making muffins from this is a great idea.

I just got a proctor silex 1.5 quart mini slow cooker and it was perfect. I hate my large Rival cooker because it cooks way too fast. Nice to wake up with a hot breakfast but it serves more like 6. Next time I will halve the recipe. All the burned ratings it is your cookers fault. I also add a little honey(skipped figs before bed and in the morning switch to warm and add blueberries, chopped walnuts, banana slices and maple sugar. Bob Red Mill steel cut oats are crazy good.

I double the recipe since I had a big crowd. Unfortunately, the big crowd (mostly teenagers overslept and the oatmeal overcooked. However, I took the left over oatmeal and made muffins. I added a cup of uncooked oatmeal, flour, brown sugar, eggs and butter. The leftovers made 72 muffins that were gone the next day. I did add mini-chocolate chips to half of the muffins just for a change. I couldn't keep the teenagers out of them. They have already requested the muffins again.

Delicious! Like a previous reviewer, I used a 1.5 qt slow cooker. I did not add any of the dried fruit as with the water, milk (used skim instead of half and half and oats it was pretty full. We just added raisins in the morning. It turned out perfect!

Maybe I did something wrong, but this was way too runny. It was more like a gruel than oatmeal. I did add 1/2 C. brown sugar for some sweetness.

This is what I call easy and delicious. You make the oatmeal the night before by literally throwing in the ingredients and waking up in the morning to a hot meal. Use a slow cooker liner and it's an EASY, EASY clean up!!
PS...the fruit was toooo much...make without

AB, how many carbs and calories. I am a diabetic and need to know. Am looking forward to cooking this dish. I love steel cut oats.
