This is now the second time I've made this recipe and both times it has come out absolutely excellent! Fun recipe to do with kids... short and simple! Also I didn't have any unsalted butter but I thought the salted butter worked just fine. For those of you who don't want to weigh stuff out this is how I did the recipe.
    1 c butter (2 sticks
    1 c peanut butter
    1 tsp vanilla
    3 3/4 c powdered sugar
    The rest as follows.

Yes, these are easy & simple ingredients, but they are dry, crumbly and way too sweet! Maybe they would work with half as much of the sugar...

Very easy to make; great peanut butter taste; crumbly tho; wonder how I can make it less crumbly?

Too Dry & Overly Sweet. Easy to make, though...

after a less successful attempt with another recipe, i tried this one with a day to go before my family's Christmas dinner. it worker perfectly on the first try. i did not have a microwave large enough to contain the bowl, so i used a medium sauce pan on the stove. the result was a huge hit, and i have enjoyed several pieces myself. thank you for this recipe.

Followed the recipe exactly and the minute I added the sugar it seized up into little balls. Total waste of my time and ingredients.

Good simple recipe but I'm wondering why the extra 2 minutes, next time I won't microwave it a second time thinking it might have a softer texture. I used Cookie butter from Trader Joe's instead of peanut butter and because I kept the vanilla in the recipe as called for, it turned out a bit sweet but that is on me - if it was peanut butter it would have been just sweet enough with the vanilla but with the cookie butter it didn't need it due to how it was flavored to begin with.
Nice recipe and leave it to Alton to save the day! =

This was awesome and so easy to make. I read the other comments about the butter-8 ounces IS two sticks! Eight tablespoons = 1 stick, Eight ounces= 2 sticks!!
