Made this last night, only problem I found the amount of milk 3/4 cup was not enough to soak the 1 cup cornmeal. I had to end up adding about 1/2 - 1 cup more milk. However the end result was to die for.

I thought this would be really good since I love cornbread and every Good Eats recipe I've tried, but it was just TOO GRITTY for the whole family. I'll stick to a TRUE CAKE version for future upside down adventures.

Trying to think of something less origanal to make for the man of my dreams, I came across Alton's receipt and it looked so good when I watched him make it I had to try it. Well it was the perfect dessert for our Valentine's Day. Thank You, so much for this wonderful cake.

I really, really wanted for this to work out, but the fact is that the cake was extremely gritty after it was cooked. I used the EXACT same cornmeal as Alton, same brand and everything, and made sure to soak it for long enough, but it still sucked. My mom liked it, which was good because it meant I could unload it at her house. Also, I did the math and it's about 540 calories per smallish slice. Not worth it.

Although, this recipe may sound intensely complicated it is by far very easy. Also Alton's Pineapple Upside down Cornmeal Cake beyond "DELICIOUSE"! Nevermind, "GOOD EAT" let's rename thiss recipe "SUPER GOOD EATS!" KEEP IT UP ALTON! As my youngens say when I try Alton's recipes, "ALTON YA DA BOMB"!!!

Didn't really care for it. Too cornmealy, not cakey enough. Looked nice.

Presentation was beautiful. Expected cake to be sweeter than it was.

I wasn't totally sure about this, but it sounded interesting. My mom came to visit, so I made it for her and the step-daughters and their husbands. I thought mom would like it, but everyone loved it. All gone. Texture was excellent, not dry or gooy. Topping was perfect and had a good flavor with the addition of the pineapple juice. It came easily out of the skillet. You could taste the polenta and it made a great counterpoint to the topping. I'll be putting this in with my favorites.

The glaze topping is "too die fore".
BUT you MUST love cornmeal to get down the heavy load this bread puts on....
