Ingredients

  • 5 ounces (approximately 1 cup) roasted pistachios
  • 4 ounces (approximately 1 cup) dried cherries
  • 2 ounces (approximately 1/2 cup) dried apricots
  • 2 ounces (approximately 1/2 cup) golden raisins
  • 2 ounces (approximately 1/2 cup) pitted dates
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons creme de cassis

Directions

Put the pistachios in the bowl of a food processor and pulse until finely chopped, but not powdery. Divide in half into 2 separate bowls and set aside.

Put the cherries, apricots, raisins, and dates through a food grinder using the medium-grind blade. Add to the bowl with half of the pistachios. Add the orange juice and creme de cassis to the mixture and combine, using your hands, until the liquid is evenly distributed throughout. Shape the mixture into 24 walnut size balls and roll them in the remaining chopped pistachios. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

    Wonderful Exotic Flavor

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I was a little leary of how sweet these might be, but the first time I followed the recipe but left out the liquor. The end... product was very tasty but as I had suspected a little too sweet for me. The second time I made them, I substituted dried cranberries for the cherries and the tartiness was just perfect and really went well with the pistachios. Thanks, Alton, I watch your show all the time!!Read more

    Natures Candy

Individually, we enjoy all these dried fruits so we were confident that we'd like this recipe. And we were right. Not only... are they nutritious, but delicious as well. I found them to be easy to make. We bought most of the fruits in bulk at our local warehouse club, but that's because we eat them often anyway. Now I'm able to make a second batch. Hint: spray your hands with pan-spray before shaping the balls. It'll help with the stickyness.Read more

It was a lot of work, it made a big mess, and for what it was, it fell short on the taste

    Great and easy

Don't know what that other reviewer was talking about. These were very easy to make, and did get better with time as the... fruits melded together. I made them for my inlaws, who are not fond of overly sweet things, and they were gone in 3 days. If the sweetness bothers you, I would suggest swapping out the apricots with dried pears, or cutting down the cherries to half cup, substituting the other half with blueberries.Read more

    Awful and more awful!

Rated: 1 stars out of 5
I have a lot of experience cooking and love Middle Eastern sweets so I thought this sounded interesting. I should have... thought again- it is totally awful. Too sweet and the nuts don't really go with the too sweet fruits, not to mention the liquer you mix it with. In fact it was so gross it almost made me ill. I put it in the frig to see if this improves with some age but I am thinking it won't. The only reason I didnt' throw it out was the high cost of the ingredients. Give me Dave Lieberman- his recipes are always good and they always turn out!Read more
