    Love the convenience and of course the price, but......burns too quickly In a little more than a minute and so many unpopped corn.

    I mixed popcorn, oil and salt in a small bowl, placed in a paperbag folded for 3 minutes. Came out fine except there were still alot of kernals left not popped. Otherwise, it was great!

    Really easy! I left out the jalapeno thing and used 1/2 the amount of salt called for. Topped the popped popcorn with grated parmesan. Mm! I had no problems with staples in the microwave, but since others have had success with just folding the bag over several times, I'll stop playing with fire and omit the staples from now on. ;

    Made great, healthy popcorn! I took the advice of others and folded the bag rather than stapling it and because I'm not much for spice, I used a ranch seasoning instead of jalapeno. There are quite a few unpopped kernels so I may need to put it in a little longer next time. Turned out very perfect - I love this healthy alternative to microwave popcorn.

    I was hesitant to put a staple in the microwave, but I thought, "well if Alton does it..." About one minute in, the bag started smoking. I took it out of the microwave and the bag was smoldering right where the staple was. My kitchen was filling with smoke so I took the bag outside, where the paper bag BURST INTO FLAMES. Luckily it was rainy and I was able to stomp it out quickly. The ceiling of my microwave is permenantly blackened.
    There are lots of positive reviews here saying that the staple worked for them, so I don't know what it was that made mine in particular catch fire like that. But it definitely answers the question "is it safe to put a staple in the microwave?" I wouldn't recommend it!
    I tried again without the staple and it came out perfect, so the recipe is good!

    I made this today, but I used a dollop of butter (1 tablespoonrather than oil. I didn't staple the bag (couldn't find the stapler, just folded it over 3 times, and there was no popcorn flying about the microwave. The butter was salted, so there was no need for any extra salt. Tasty, will make again.

    I decided to melt a teaspoon of butter for the oil, mixed it with the popcorn, put it in the microwave and let it pop. I put the salt on while it was still steaming. Tasted great and I felt good about saving money. My kids said I make the best popcorn ever! Thanks Alton!

    This recipe is sooo easy. I used the staples and had no problem with my microwave. However, next time I'll take the advice of another reviewer and mix the kernels, oil, and seasonings before I put them in the bag so that the salt sticks to the popcorn better. Yes, there were unpopped kernels but no more than in my air popper.

    Yum. Yet another reason to love Alton Brown.
    I didn't have jalanpeno seasoning so I omitted it. I didn't even use a staple to hold it shut, still came out perfect.

    "We also made microwave popcorn in this show using an application that riled a lot of folks because the rig called for several metal staples, which several engineers assured me wouldn't be a problem due to the wavelength of microwaves." -Alton Brown in Good Eats: The Early Years, page 141.

    Now that that's out of the way, let's get to the recipe. It is DELICIOUS. I omitted the jalapeno seasoning and substituted J&D's Bacon Salt for the popcorn salt. I also omitted the staples, for no reason other than to save money on staples. Before putting the ingredients in the bag, I tossed them together in a small bowl, hoping it would reduce the amount of oil absorbed by the bag. It didn't, but it did help the salt adhere to the popcorn instead of the bag.

    The only problem I am having is that there are a lot of unpopped kernels in the bag after I microwave it. No one else seems to have had this problem, though, so it's probably because my popcorn is pretty old and my microwave has a very low wattage.

    If you are using oil, pour the popcorn into a different container before serving, or you will be getting grease stains out of your pants and furniture for a long time.
