$400 later, my microwave blew after 30 seconds with this recipe.

I love you Alton, and I follow you religiously. This time you let me down and it cost me a $400 microwave. Please let people know that staples and microwaves don't mix. I trusted you to guide me in a safe recipe and after 30 seconds my bag disintegrated and my new microwave stopped working.

It works!!! Watch the time and use a big enough bag, or they clump together and can burn if popped too long. But they come apart and taste great.

IDEA: Add cocoa mix or other powdered sweet flavorings for a desert snack. I added hot sauce for a kick, so this can be made in any fashion or style

Works great - but I used too much salt; had a blender to grind sea salt fine and added other healthy spices AND I used two staples and kept a good watch. No problems. I'll save the leftover salt mix for other batches! The oil really soaked the paper bag - which is probably good; less consumption of oil!

Good for me...no preservatives, chemicals, or artificial stuff. Good for the environment...no wasteful packaging. And it tastes good! Like other reviewers I skipped the staple and used a little less oil. Thanks Alton!

I love making popcorn in the microwave. But PLEASE don't put a stable in the microwave unless you want to start a fire.. Just fold over the top of the bag twice. I put the seasoning on afterwards so the oil doesn't seep out onto the microwave.

This probably would have been delicious if the paper bag hadn't CAUGHT ON FIRE in my microwave. I suspect it was the staple... I knew I shouldn't put a staple in the microwave, but I figured it must be safe if everyone was doing it! I'll try it again without the staple.

I love this recipe! So fast and easy and cleanup is a breeze. I love popcorn but stopped buying microwave because of all of the negative stuff that came out about it. I also love the fact that by making my own, I avoid all of the preservatives and chemicals in commercial microwave popcorn.

We use this recipe all the time (I usually eyeball the amount of oil now, it works fine, and I love it. If you love microwave popcorn (and who doesn't?, this will save you a bundle.

My only thing that I would add would be to place 1-2 sheets of paper towel under the bag when you put it in the microwave. The oil tends to seep through the bag and can leave a bit of a mess when you're done.

4 star simply because it didn't work well the first time...I suspect success will be contingent on several factors...in MY case, LESS oil, LESS time in the micro (mine is 1000W and MORE popcorn salt, LOL...TIP: skip the stapling, completely unnecessary...just fold over the bag opening TWICE, then lay with the folded side down!

Great recipe: cheap, easy and yummy!

Two caveats though. Use peanut oil, canola, soybean, anything but the EVOO, it has too low a smoking point. And two, watch the bag in the micro. If it gets caught up and doesn't keep turning your popcorn will be a blackened mess.
