Amazing Red Velvet Cake Recipe. I've used it for cupcakes and this batch is truly amazing. It is a very delicate balance, so be sure to use precise measurements of ingredients and it should come out delicious!! I added one bar of Ghirardelli Bittersweet Chocolate, chopped and melted into the batter which gave the red velvet recipe a bit of a boost, but didn't throw off the overall classic red velvet recipe. It was Wonderful! Thanks Alton for this!

This was delicious! We tweaked the recipe a little by adding an extra table spoon of cocoa and another stick of butter to the batter. I followed the measurements given below and the cake bake perfectly and everybody loved it. We followed the frosting recipe exactly and it was amazing!

Super Yummy!! I've never made a cake from scratch and this being my first attempt was truly a great choice! This cake was soooo moist and tender with just the right amount of crumble. And the icing was just right....not too sweet. I had a hard time not eating the entire cake!! I cannot wait to go home today and have another slice. We make again the next time a get a red velvet cake craving.

made this cake today and it came out great! dont over bake it! mine only took 25 minutes, so watch out! it is not too sweet of a cake, but it is just right. as long as you follow directions and measurements exactly, it is a very easy cake to make. highly recommended!

My daughter has requested red velvet cake for her birthday the last two years so I thought I'd try Alton's recipe this year. My entire family (of six agreed last year's was better. This cake was good but not great. I made the Martha Stewart recipe last year. Alton's cake was drier and really sour from the combination of cream cheese, buttermilk and vinegar, I guess. Even though I used a kitchen scale to measure the ingredients it still would have been easier to have conversions for the measurements. I would not have gone out and bought a scale just for this recipe. I won't be making this recipe again.
