The custard is amazing. I used 99 Bananas Liquor to soak the vanilla wafers. Unfortunately it made the wafers bitter. I agree with the other reviewers who suggested not soaking the cookies in alcohol (and this is shocking, as I usually like the take of alcohol!. Next time I make this, I may sub banana extract for the vanilla in the custard. I will definitely make it again - other than the strong bitter liquor taste - this banana pudding was awesome!

I'm glad I read the reviews and was therefore cautious with the banana liqueur. I bought the "weakest" banana liqueur I could find and used only 2 ounces to pour over the vanilla wafers. The taste was terrible! I threw out the liqueured wafers and used plain ones instead. Otherwise, I followed the recipe and it turned out delicious.

This recipe is a winner and the only one I will use in the future. I used Creme de Banana as was recommended in other reviews, but didn't use enough. I used less than 2 ozs. for fear of overflavoring with alcohol and I couldn't even taste it plus I just dipped the cookies rather than soaking them...the next time I will follow the recipe. Also, I made the vanilla wafers and they were very good but the two foodies in my famiy and me questioned whether they were worth the trouble. And finally I doubled the custard which I would recommend doing.

This is such a great recipe! My husband who never bakes or cooks anything, can make this! Add he actually prefers to! This is by far the best banana pudding ever! So much depth of flavor and its so easy! One suggestion, i would like to make about some of the other reviews that think this is too boosy....when you buy the banana liqoeur, make sure you by "Creme de Banana" not "99 Bananas". "99 Bananas" is a schnopps, not a liqoeur and it will over power the taste.

I was surprised to see soaking the wafers in liquor for l0 minutes? Is that a typo? I dunked them in the liquor, which was in a bowl, for a split second, (testing because I thought 10 min. seemed a bit too long then laid them around the pudding and even then they had begun to become mush!
The recipe is great but really just a simple custard. I also doubled it and added vanilla bean.
Also, I did not double the cream but am topping this off with meringue. Sorry. Couldn't help myself. Had to have a piece of the "granny" version. Is that weird together? We'll see but I feel certain my son-in-law will L-O-V-E it. He's a big banana pudding fan! Oh, I'm refrigerating the pudding overnight. Tomorrow I'll actually be putting the meringue on and then I plan to torch it. Yumm0

The final product was delicious. We doubled the pudding recipe, but not the cookies or the whipped cream. I was concerned about the liqueur overwhelming things, but it was great. It got rave reviews from everyone that ate it, and the whole bowl was gone in 10 minutes. Make plenty!

Excellent recipe!! Even my health nut sister-in-law dug into the serving bowl with a huge spoon. She couldn't resist! Use the wafer recipe! Make sure to use a thermometer, and don't over or under cook the pudding, or it won't thinken. I read the reviews, and saw the problem with it tasting boozy, and knew kids would be eating it, so I made a simple syrup and added the 99 Bananas to that, so some alcohol would cook out. Turned out fantastic! Enough banana flavor without a boozy feeling to it. AB is amazing, and never steers me in the wrong direction!

Delicious Pudding, only had to add cornstarch to get the pudding to thicken. The pudding refuese to thicken despite 12hrs in the refrigerator. Attempted the recipe twice and both times that happened, otherwise a delicious recipe.
