I like this really well. I made it as-written (but with beef, but have since done these things differently:
--use more vegetables (2 cups chopped onion, 3 carrots, 1 1/2 cups each of peas and corn
--add more sauce for all of those veggies (1 1/2 cups chicken stock, and a bit more of the woostershire, tomato paste, to flavor it
--add more potatoes (2 to 2 1/2 pounds is better for my oval le creuset ceramic baking dish
And, a great way to get a lot of flavor in a hurry is to use 1 pound ground beef and 1/2 pound bulk sausage. Gives great flavor (without the herbs and garlic and saves time when I'm in a rush to get that family dinner finished.

This is very good. In place of lamb I used ground beef, beef broth, low sodium worcestershire sauce, and a store brand mashed potatoes. I did use fresh thyme but didn't have the fresh rosemary on hand. Since I only had dried rosemary, I only used 1/8 tsp in the recipe.

My (adult kids are huge Alton Brown fans! I made this for the men in my family tonight -- I substituted lamb for beef (technically a "Cottage Pie" -- and there was NOTHING left! It was delicious -- I have never made Shepherd's Pie before but will make this again and again.

Tasty as Shepard's Pie always is but bland as Shepard's Pie always is - that's English food for you. Thus, I gave the dish 4 stars, it was a bit too bland for me. My parents who requested the dish loved it and would give it 5 stars if they were the ones who were rating. At least I know I can cook!!

So delicious and satisfying. Never made it before but anything by Alton Brown will always come out perfectly. His recipe uses my favorite, lamb instead of beef. I usually bought or ordered it in a restaurant. I happened to have Yukon Gold potatoes, ground lamb and petit pois so I made it tonight. I did not have corn so I doubled the peas for the recipe but everything else was followed to the letter. My husband and I both had a huge helpings it was that delicious. In my opinion, little children would love this dish since it does not have a strong "lamby" taste. Will make it again, with corn, next time.

I tried this recipe the other day and was amazed at how good it was and how easy it was to make. I'm sure you could make all kinds of substitutions (beef for lamb, etc., but I made it exactly as directed. I highly recommend this dish.

Full of flavor. Try to stick to the dish size that is recommended in the recipe.

Made this earlier in the week and we scarfed this down! (my husband = 3 helpings, me = 2, son age 2yrs = 1 Leftovers were great for the rest of the week (and like a lot of recipes, even better as leftovers! I made it with all lamb but will try it with beef and/or pork or chicken next time since lamb is so much more $$$.

This was an excellent, easy to follow recipe. I substituted the lamb for ground beef and chicken broth for beef just because of our kids' taste preferences. Delicious and easy!
