The "dog-food" smell Novada mentioned is the typical lamb smell. That's why lamb isn't more popular, I think . . .it stinks!

Excepting that, Alton's recipe is really good.

I don't know what I did wrong, but the smell of this dish reminded me of dog's food. The taste was there, but I couldn't get over that smell. Will try again.

Great flavor in this dish. It's very easy. I used ground turkey and also added mushrooms..yum! Next time I will use beef broth instead of chicken broth (recommended. Thanks Alton!

I made this recipe for a group dinner that included little kids and adults. It was an absolute hit with everyone! The flavors blend so incredibly well and it's almost better the next day (can I say that?! I confess to ground chuck rather than the lamb, otherwise it's an amazing dish and worth the time!

This is going to become a cold weather and all year staple for my husband and I! I highly recomend this recipe! I made a few minor alterations to the recipe though ... I put in 4 carrots because we LOVE carrots, and doubled the Worch. sauce. I also substituted ground beef for the lamb, since I have never seen lamb at any of my local grocery stores. I still used chicken stock like the recipe called for. I figured it would lighten the flavor since I was using beef instead of lamb, and it was amazing. This was so yummy and very comforting on a cold night!

Not being a huge fan of lamb (and having difficulty finding it, I've made this several times with ground beef/beef broth (& leaving out the rosemary and it's absolutely fabulous--even though I know it's technically "cottage pie". I have a friend who was raised in England and he says it's be best he's had. I divide the recipe in half and freeze it in foil containers and it's become his preferred birthday and Christmas present. Thanks, Alton!

I used 1/2 ground lamb and 1/2 ground beef, I also used red wine instead of the chicken stock. It turned out great!!! Everyone loved it, it was perfect for the first cold night of the year.

Fairly easy and tastes great. I'll be sure to show this off to my parents when home from college.

I used ground turkey instead of lamb, but am interested to try other ground meats too for other flavors. I didn't drain the grease, but would recommend doing that next time. Next time I plan on putting half of the rosemary in the mashed potatoes, as well as trying to get the potato crust a little crispier.

This was deliicious. I do reccomend adding salt to the water the potatos are boiled in so the mashed potatos need less seasoning later. The carrots and corn really added a lot. Thanks Alton!
