Very good for Paleo!! In place of the sugar I "steeped" dried bing cherries in the bacon fat/vinegar shortly before serving. I also added some toasted pecans. The kids LOVED it (especially since I served the mushrooms on the side, lol : Thanks Alton, super easy and delicious!

This is a keeper! A perfect "paleo" meal, minus the sugar.

This recipe has been in our family favorites for many years, about 65-75 years to be sure. Just never added any mushrooms. Good to see the recipe come back into rotation for everyone to enjoy.

Great recipe. Try tossing some dried cranberries in for a little color and tartness.

Loved it! Instead of the white mushrooms I used wild mushrooms added a meaty/woodsy flavor that went great with the vinegar. Speaking of which I used 2/3's red wine and 1/3 balsamic, delicious!
