Another reviewer who did not make the recipe, but needed rate the recipe. I wish there was a section for people who just need to chat rather than try the recipe. Sorry about your childhood. Try the recipe.

One caution - let the bacon grease cool a bit. Otherwise, very tasty and easy to make!

After reading all the great reviews, I was unexpectedly disappointed when I tried this recipe. It tasted oily and very bland. Definitely will not make it again.

This was a last minute recipe decision and it turned out perfectly. The biggest hit of the whole dinner. We didn't have any onions on hand so we did without and it was still just as good!!!

My husband and I love this salad. We've tried other recipes, but this one is our favorite. The flavor was mild and really enhanced the spinach. Way to go Alton!

This went over well at our recent dinner party. Agree that cider viengar would sweeten it up a bit.

Another great recipe from Alton Brown! This salad is soooo good my family wanted me to make again the next night. Simple to make and classic - a winning combination!

I haven't made this salad - but, I gave it five stars because it's almost exactly like a salad I had growing up which was a summertime favorite of our family. The differences in this salad and the one I had as a kid (I'm in my 50'swas that my mother used home-grown leaf lettuce instead of spinach, white or cider vinegar instead of red-wine vinegar - with equal portions of sugar to vinegar, and no eggs, mustard or mushrooms. However, even without those ingredients, it was a wonderful salad - so it must be all about the bacon... I guess anything tastes good if bacon is part of the recipe! Wow, my mouth is watering just writing about this salad...
