This was delicious! I also added 1/2 cup of carrots and 1/2 cup of celery to the party and used seasoned bread crumbs. It was so good even my kids ate it and thought it was delicious! I think next time I may even add some black beans! It is nice to have these kind of recipes so that you don't have to buy the frozen ones at the store, no additives or preservatives...win win in my book! Alton Brown is a genius!

Ok so at first for me it did seem a but bland, but with any type of patty, meat ball, meatloaf, etc. you have to take a small amount and cook it up then taste it. How do you know if some thing is good if you don't try it beforehand? after you've made a tester then adjust the seasoning accordingly. And make sure your using a good brand of veggie broth because that's also were most of your flavor is coming from.

My fiance and I tried this last night. We followed everything as carefully as possible, but the end, it just didn't taste right. Part of it may have been that the pea taste came through too strong. Also, after cooking in patties, they were still pretty mushy (not a major problem though. I do think we'll take the brown rice, mushrooms, peppers, and garlic though to use with beef to make something else (those did smell fantastic while cooking, but otherwise, fell down hard for us. I don't even think the deer in the backyard have touched the leftovers.

I think I followed the recipe, carefully. It wasn't worth the effort. Even my vegetarian girlfriend gave it a thumbs down.

My boyfriend made these burgers for me and his family and they were a HIT! His dad even said, "This recipe is a keeper!" My boyfriend did, however, make a few minor changes to the recipe: (1 he used carrots instead of mushrooms since he didn't have any, (2 he added celery, (3 he did not include bell peppers, (4 he used organic cornbread stuffing mix instead of breadcrumbs (again, because he didn't have any breadcrumbs and (5 he had some brown rice that was already cooked up so he just threw that in to the pot with the split peas toward the end basically to heat it through. These burgers had a TON of flavor and they are very filling. We didn't even place them on a bun since there really was no need. Everyone was pleased to have a new way to cook up split peas and brown rice. We plan on making a double batch and freezing the patties so that we have them on hand, especially since the recipe is a bit involved. Thanks, AB!

I really don't like vegetables, but I tried Alton Brown's french toast recipe and now love french toast more than ever, so I figured if anyone could "convert" me to veggies, he could. I tried this recipe to the letter (except for a few minor mistakes, which I tried to fix with relatively good results, I think. It was good...except for the peas part. Somehow the peas were still kind of dry and had a strange taste. Then again, I wasn't entirely sure that the peas I used were actually split peas. I liked the rest of the veggie burger, though, so I think the next time I try this recipe I'll either do it without peas, or make sure I'm using the right kind of peas.

I needed to use some dry split peas and didn't want to make Split Pea Soup. I found this recipe. It was easy and yummy.

Great taste and texture. I reduced the recipe to make only two burgers, but I will definitely make the full recipe and freeze the rest. Make sure you pack you burgers firm and wait a few minutes before flipping so that the breadcrumbs (and mixture has a chance to brown and hold.

I've made this twice now. It's awesome. Sure it doesn't hold together like a store bought veggie burger, but I wasn't expecting it to. The flavour was great, the texture was great. I did however add a whole cup of breadcrumbs which helped a lot.
