Pretty darn good! Much cheesier than boxed mac 'n cheese, and definitely much more wholesome. Ours was almost too rich, but now that I've made it I know I can adjust the flavorings and the types of cheese to get the consistency and flavor we like. And very easy to make. Thanks Alton! We're all major Good Eats fans at my house.

i'm probably the cheapest cook on this site, so, price is an issue for me. the 10 oz of cheddar is a lot. but it was done inside of 20 minutes, had a great flavor. watch the hot sauce though.

For a die-hard blue box fan like myself, it's really a rite of passage to be able to make my own mac-and-cheese. This recipe was so easy and I've been getting raves from kids and adults alike. Fast, easy, and I may just try and tweak this baby my own self.

My friends raved over this recipe, tho personally I wasn't 100% sure. I'm used to the box stuff with the salty processed cheese pack. My thing with this is that it doesn't reheat very well because the cheddar cheese separates when you stick it in the microwave. I can see where people were complaining it's too "soupy", but if you turn the heat up to medium and continue cooking, it will thicken up properly. I doubled the recipe, and I found the mustard to be a bit too strong, so I would cut back on the dry mustard by 1/2. I had so much left over that I cooked up some ground beef and threw it in 1/2 of the leftovers along with a bit of Dale's marinade sauce and it was delish! But I'm having a party tonight and my friends want me to serve it, so it's a keeper for sure.

This has quickly become one of my favorite comfort food recipes. It is quick, easy and it has a much better flavor than the box kits. I add some smoked ham to make it a filling main course.
