I would not make this again, man what a waist of flour, and sugar..... the dough came out crumbly. I refregerated the dough and it came out as hard as a rock. sorry Alton Brown :(

I agree with other reviews that this recipe makes very dry, crumbly dough. I had to really improvise to get it to the right consistency for rolling. I had some eager kids waiting to make Valentine's Day cut out cookies, so this could have really been a disaster if I wasn't able to fix the dough. I still give it three stars, though, because the end result was some pretty tasty cookies, especially when paired with butter cream frosting for decorating.

This is my favorite sugar cookie recipe. I've used it for about five years. It's sweet enough - it tastes like a sugar cookie should taste! The best thing is that the cookies don't spread when they bake. The royal icing recipe with it is great, too. It sets up nicely. They are always a hit and my kids like to help cut them out and ice them. We just made some pink hearts for Valentine's Day this week. Yum!

Made them for Christmas and were a big hit. Just make sure you time it at 7 mins. because they will burn quickly. Even if they look like they are soft and raw, the extra two minutes on the backing sheet after you remove them from the oven will complete the cooking process without burning them.

crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside...perfect recipe! I wish I hadn't let the dough sit in the fridge for 2 hours, I am not patient letting it warm up enough to roll; but other than that, my second attempt at making sugar cookies was an A+. I made cookies years ago and was very frustrated with the whole process. This time I was armed with an awesome recipe and a large rolling pin with quarter inch rubber bands....perfect cookies! Once I figured out how to remove them from the pan I was off to the races. Absolutely making these again and again. You do not need to change this recipe. I was skeptical of the no vanilla part but trusted Alton and he is right, do not need it. Thank you!!

These are really good. They are nice and firm on the outside and sort of gooey on the inside. Success!

I made the dough exactly how the recipe said and found it tasted too floury....so added 1/2 cup more sugar and it was much better. It rolled out beautifully and baked well. Next time I will try 1/2 cup less flour and see how that goes.

This was one of the easiest recipes for sugar cookies I have tried in years. The flavor was amazing using the powdered sugar to roll out the dough. I just loved it!!!!

Just the best sugar cookies I've ever made. I took them to my Grandmother's Christmas party & everyone raved about them & asked for the recipe. Perfect texture & consistency & not too floury. Rolling the dough out with powdered sugar instead of flour makes all the difference. Alton hasn't steered me wrong yet.
