I just made these yesterday and they're all gone already. I followed the advice of other reviewers and added like a teaspoon of vanilla. And then I said "heck, why not!" and threw in some pumpkin pie spice. To try and make them a smidge healthier I replaced 3/4 cup of the called for AP flour with whole wheat. The texture was wonderful- firm enough but soft, and the flavor was buttery and just sweet enough. Rolling them in powdered sugar instead of flour is such a smart idea.

Very good with just a couple of adjustments. Recipe definitely needs vanilla. I generally add 1- 1 1/2 tsp of good quality vanilla. Also I use a mix of part flour and part powdered sugar to roll out. Cookies don't burn quite as easily. My hubby inhales these at Christmas!

Best sugar cookies I've ever made! This is the first recipe that was easy to make and gave a satisfying texture to the cookies. Must agree with other reviewers however that they do need some flavoring like almond, vanilla, citrus or icing. Also, at the advice of other reviewers I left the dough in fridge for only 1/2 hour. It came out REALLY firm. If you don't have a lot of arm strength, don't panic, just work with it for a few minutes and it will soften up enough to roll to proper size. Also, be sure to keep an eye on those puppies as they will burn quickly if you don't hold to the time suggested. That being said, I will be using this recipe from now on.

I made the other half of the cookies, and this time instead of adding food coloring or anything, i put a chocolate chip on top of them and then I put them in the oven at 250, and they cooked beatifully. They had the lemon extract and extra sugar. Still a little too bland for my taste. Next time, I am goignt to make the chocolate cookies!!

Super tasty, easy recipe...even for someone who is not known to roll out dough very well! I gave them the 8 minutes in the oven recommended, but, they needed about 1 more minute to start browning. But be careful! Once they start to brown, they can go from golden to burnt quickly!

This is our family's favorite recipe. I will say that if you are a fan of that processed super sugary cookie taste, then this recipe is not for you. These always turn out beautifully.

Super easy to make and tasty. Using powdered sugar to roll out the cookies is a great idea and the sugar on the bottom of the cookie allowed the bottom to crisp up while the cookie stayed soft. I'll do these again!

The best sugar cookies I've ever had! My grandmother, who's personal recipe we've used for over 40 years, has decided that these are way better and will now be making altons cookies each year for Christmas! We went to allrecipes for ''the best sugar cookie icing'' and it dried hard and perfect, but is a little runny at room temp. Together, these cookies and icing were gone within two days. Everyone couldn't stop eating them!
