I have made this recipe at various holidays for 3 years now, after trying other recipes that always had some flaws. Hands down, this is the winner! It is very flavorful, can be crunchy or chewy depending on how thin you roll it and the dough it easy to make and use. Thank you, Alton! The chocolate-peppermint pinwheels made with this dough are also fantastic!

Just made these tonight. Not only was it a simple recipe but they tasted great. This is probably the best sugar cookie recipe I've ever used or tasted. Will never use another one again!

Thank you Alton, you put a huge smile on my 21 month old baby boy. He could not eat them faster. We even took them to my 11yr old daughters school party and they were a huge hit. Once again you have done it again. My daughter and have started cooking at least one recipe a week together of her choice and they are always from your show.

I have tried these twice and they stuck to the pan both times. I would suggest quickly removing them from the pan ASAP. They taste fine though, in pieces!

I made these cookies for my family and they were gone the same night. I've made them for every holiday since then using the appropriate cookie cutouts. They're incredibly tasty!

The cookies were very easy to make and they came out perfect. I would recomend using the european extra creamy style butter. I actually used cream instead of milk. they were delish.

As I was making these cookies, I was surprised at the lack of vanilla as an ingredient. I also "sampled" the dough and it did not seem to have a lot of flavor. I followed the instructions to the letter. I was very impressed how easy the dough was to work with. I wrapped smaller batchs in wax paper to refrigerate than stated. I think this helped with a problem of the dough getting too warm. I tasted one of the cookies from the first batch when they cooled. I was really disappointed, they seemed flavorless, but had a good texture and consistency. I was really disappointed because I was making these for a halloween party that I was going to in a few hours. These cookies were a huge hit at the party and when I had one that I had saved at home, the flavor seemed to "set in." These are probably the best sugar cookies/cut-outs I have ever devoured....er, I mean eaten!
