This was a great because it was not too sweet before frosting the cookies.

Alton Brown is my hero. I've tried at least half a dozen different recipes in years past, but this is the only one that's memorable. I made a bunch for friends for Valentines Day. Some told me that they were so good I should sell them.

I added a tsp of vanilla to the mix, and also used a 50-50 10x sugar and flour mix when rolling it out. I baked them on parchment paper - not a single cookie got stuck or broke. I iced them with a basic 10x sugar, milk, & vanilla icing. They were exceptionally great!

These were easy and tasty. We frosted them with homemade buttercream frosting which was a good compliment to the not-too-sweet cookie. The reviewers tip to use 1/2 powdered sugar and 1/2 flour for rolling is a good one. These weren't the best tasting sugar cookies I've ever had (I'm still looking for that recipe, but they were good enough to make again.

I've never been able to make decent sugar cookies...until now! This is the first recipe I've used that has turned out well - delicious, lovely cookies that the family loved. I knew I could trust Alton. These cookies will definitely be making an annual appearance at my house!

I've made lots of sugar cookies and often end up with sticky dough or cookies that expand when cooking and lose their shape. This dough rolled out beautifully and the cookies retained their shape once baked. The taste of a plain cookie wasn't the best I've had, but you could certainly add flavorings to your taste.

    on outside.

I rarely bake, but am making an effort at holiday time for the kids. Thank goodness I found this recipe -- for once I spent my effort baking the right way!

These are terrific cookies if you're going to decorate them with icing. They're not that sweet (I like my cookies sweet, but that's what the icing is for!, and buttery.

Chilling the dough is crucial, though. It makes it a lot easier to work with. Don't skip this step.
