What more can you ask for from a pie. I make this for Thanksgiving instead of pumpkin.

My husband and I love Good Eats, so we decided to make this recipe for his Thanksgiving office party. After all, AB always seems to make killer food, and he wanted to obliterate the competition. My husband is from the South, so he loves sweet potato pie. We were so confident in the recipe that we didn't even taste the pie before the contest. BIG mistake. Well, it smelled great coming out of the oven, but it had an unpleasant sour yogurt flavor; it's like you're waiting for great taste to emerge and it never does. Needless to say the pie didn't win and was barely eaten. How embarrassing and totally disappointing, especially since we thought it would be a hit. My husband regretted not using his tried and true recipe after all.

Having never had sweet potato pie until trying this recipe, I see no reason to fuss with pumpkins again.

After eating the sweet potato pie my family made me promise to never go back to pumpkim pie, and I have to agree with them, so this year on our Thanksgiving table will be AB's sweet potato pie.

I read the reviews regarding too much yogurt taste and the pie not being sweet enough so I substituted 1/2 of the plain yogurt with vanilla bean yogurt. The pie was still not sweet enough, bland (needs more spices, and tastes too much like yogurt. Sorry AB, I always try your recipes first before others, but this one is not a winner.

This is an very good pie. However, some friends felt the yogurt made it a little to tart. The next time around I substituted 3/4 cup sweet cream for the same amount of yogurt and made my own crust. Perfect! The pecans and maple syrup make all the difference between this recipe and others I've tried. Nice job Alton

This is the recipe that got me to register on this website, just so that I can say how much I love it. I've never been a fan of traditional Southern sweet potato pie, but I knew there had to be a way to make it that I'd like it. This is definitely it!

Tangy, tasty, and the nuts and maple are perfect. Real whipped cream on top was the perfect finishing touch. My only variation was that since I'm far to lazy to peel, cut up, and steam sweet potatoes, I baked them and slipped them out of their skins into the mixer.

(Oh, and tried out another Alton Brown tip on this with fantastic results -- popped the pie dough in the freezer for 20 minutes after mixing and before rolling. It made a huge difference--tender and flaky.
