YUMMY! At the suggestion of another reviewer, I mixed this up in a few minutes and used one tsp of this in lieu of the Mexican Spice Blend for Tyler Florence's Chicken Enchiladas and it tasted amazing! I will DEFINITELY use this for my next taco night. I try to be conscientious of my sodium intake and so only used half of the amount of salt. Also, I was too cheap to go out and buy ground coriander just for the occasion, so I left it out and it was still DELICIOUS. Won't ever buy another taco seasoning packet again! Thank you!

Ran out of the seasoning packets and used this receipe instead. Kids said they were the BEST TACOS EVER. Honestly, it was so easy that I will probably never need to buy a pre-made packet again. They are fighting over the left overs to bring to school in their lunch. I omitted the ground coriander and cayenne because I didn't have them. I sprinkled fresh cilantro before serving. Seriously easy and seriously good.

I found this overwhelmingly spicy to the detriment of flavor... and I cut the cayenne in half! I suppose that maybe part of the problem is that I have Penzey's medium chili powder so it already has a bit of a kick. That's why I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 3. I think I will make it next time with no cayenne

my thanks to shirleyjune of Rialto, CA, for her excellent suggesion, posted on 10-11-10, about adding Mexican oregano to this mix and for noting that this mix of spices should keep for 6 months, if prepared and stored properly! And, btw, if you need a Taco Fix and have procrastinated about getting all these ingredients to make your own, me suggests that you splurge on the Ortega brand products. I keep them all on stand-by.

I found this to be a good base mix, but of course it must be modified to suit the crowd I am cooking for each time and to suit what is available the pantry. I typically use ground bison instead of sirloin. I was recently out of low sodium beef stock so I put some beef bouillon crystals into the potion instead (the opposite of low sodium. Because of this change, I cut the kosher salt by half. For the home crowd who don't appreciate lots of heat, I substituted Ancho chili pepper powder for the cayenne. When college boys come home for spring break however........ they will want the original cayenne version.

As always Alton delivered. We were out of Taco seasoning packets and had to improvise. My Grandson loved it. I will make a big batch, no more seasoning packets in this house. Thank you Alton.

Simple and brilliantly tasty. I added to a pound of grass fed beef. Probably about a third of this recipe. I think I will make a bigger batch to have on hand. Thanks, Alton.

Really great recipe!!! Alton never fails! I used 1/2 lb ground beef 1/2 lb ground turkey. I salted & peppered the meat = bad idea! It came out too salty when I added the salt w/ the seasoning. So I rinsed the meat, and then added new batch of seasoning. I didn't have cornstarch, mixed 2 TB with water &then added to meat, I added more flour/water over time, I like it more of a mixture than just dry meat. I didn't have the hot paprika, but used the regular instead. It was spicy, but a good heat! I would save a seasoning container and add Taco Potion to that, and then adjust to your own taste.

** If you like sour cream w/ your tacos, add a little garlic powder and mix...mmm SO GOOD!

Best taco seasoning. I will never purchase the taco seasoning packets from the store again. My husband raved about the taste of the taco meat with these spices. Pure awesomeness.
