Easy to prepare and well received by a very diverse group of eaters. Originally, I chose a very moist bread and it took a couple of "overnights" to really dry out. The second time I made it, I added a pinch of sugar to the dressing and my toddler who won't eat tomatoes and is scared of green things ate a big scoop... he does love bacon after all!

My wife wasn't sure this would be good but we ended up loving it. It will be among those that we will have again and again. It really did have a BLT sandwich taste - but really much better. Next time I will add fresh tomatoes from the garden for the non-carmelized portion and it will be even better!

This was pretty good, although not amazing. I didn't make it exactly as Alton taught, though. I didn't use day old bread as I had just bought fresh bread and I think that didn't help. I also mistakenly seared all the tomatoes instead of just half. I seared them under the broiler which worked out well.

I ran short of tomatoes, so this is not a fair review. Next time I would slice the bread in half long ways and let it dry partly before cutting into cubes smaller than 1 inch.
More Bacon.
Not sure how long to "sear" the tomatoes. Should they brown? After I change it to my liking I think it will be good.

I also used balsamic vinegar; I thought it gave it an extra kick.
Also, instead of oil for searing, I used the bacon drippings--I know, maybe not as healthy, but it did add an extra flavor to the mix.
The big lesson I learned through the whole experience is: MAKE SURE YOUR BREAD IS STALE!! Crusty, somewhat day-old from the grocery just isn't enough. Follow the recipe in that main area!
