These cookies where a HIT! I have never baked a Gluten Free Cookie before! So for Christmas I made a special batch just for my little cousin who has Celiac Disease and he LOVED them! I was so happy! Even when baking them I myself tried one and was so surprised at how good they are! I'm so happy I found this recipe, and I will for sure make them again! The only change I made to the recipe was I used M&M's not Chocolate Chips!

    Thank you! Thank you!
I am an avid baker who recently found out that I have Celiac. This is the first thing that I have successfully baked AND liked! No, not 'liked', LOVED!
I only had an all-purpose flour (rice flour base and used it in place of the flour. It worked. I also added a little extra vanilla instead of using milk (intolerant, as well.
Less baking time...they stayed fluffy and chewy like I like them.
    I feel alive again!:

Hi ya we loved it but we can't have sugar gluten, or milk. So slight changes on our end.
    1/4 c palm sugar
    3 tbs maple syrup
1 banana mashed and hot from microwave as I had not ripe ones
and 1/4 cup of apple sauce ( I just can't put that much butter or oil in a recipe. do you know how may caleries are in butter?
And of course thick soy milk instead of whole milk
Do PUT IN FRIDGE I would have thrown it out as it is so Gooee but it works and the kids gave me a smile and i got a ( you did it mom I'm not even going to offer other cookies at the kids party tomorrow soni won't have to police my guys, every one will llove them.

i have tried every gluten free chocolate chip cookie recipe that i have come across. this one is BY FAR the best one!!! My celiac husband and son agree.
Usually GF baking yields a "different" texture, and some aftertaste. Not this one- 10 stars to Alton!

These are great. I was looking for a gluten free cookie to take to a party where there were gluten free people. I followed the recipe just as written but I did add 1 cup of chopped (in the food processor toasted almonds. I think the extra almond meal which I created by chopping the nuts in the food processor, added more body to the cookie - so mine did not spread out as the ones in the picture (which I like better.

I substituted white rice flour for the brown. Plus I added an extra 1/2 cube butter (melted thinking it would give me a crisp, flat cookie. Vanilla and milk I added a tad bit more because I thought the dough looked dry. I did add a rounded tsp of xanthum gum as well which may have helped. I did not refrigerate. Mine came bakery perfect-- fluffier than the cookies in the photo and yes looking great enough to sell commercially. Okay they look better than that! It's not exactly what I was looking for BUT it is crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. It may need a minute longer in the oven. I definitely will make this again. Not wet, gooey, or grainy like other gluten free recipes I have tried.

PRINT this and save this recipe!! Remarkable! Thanks for a perfect cookie that everyone loved. I had only white rice flour(no problem I made the dough and chilled it for a few hours until I got around to baking. rolled them slightly into balls and there was very little spreading. YUMMM.. To the last of the dough I added some dried cranberries and that took it over the top for the adults in the crowd who ate these.

One of the best gluten free recipes out there. My family prefers the white rice flour over the brown rice flour so I always substitute the white rice flour for brown rice flour in any gluten free recipe.

We were big fans of Alton Brown's normal Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe and were very excited to find the gluten free version.
