I left out the raisins and used Billington's Muscovado light brown sugar. I took the first batch out after about 10 minutes and thought they would be too crumbly, so left the next two batches in for longer. First batch were the favorites. Complaints about the others were that they were too dry and a bit "sawdust-y". I was a bit confused about the scoop size because I used my 1 1/2 TB scoop which only turned out about 28 cookies. (He suggested 1.5 oz which is 3TB - would be HUGE! My favorite store-bought cookie is a Pirates Cookie from Canada - oatmeal with peanut butter filling. Been dying to make my own version. Going to try to make these a bit smaller & sandwich them with pb. I did it today, but they are way too big. (Ate the whole thing - yum! My husband thinks I should make a pb filling/frosting, not just plain pb. He also thought the cookies were a bit tasteless - maybe because of the light brown sugar...? Not entirely sure if I agree with either. Thoughts anyone?

I substituted granulated Splenda for the white sugar, used only egg whites, and used a light margarine instead of butter, and they were still the best oatmeal cookie I'd ever made. Next batch I am gonna try molasses in place of the brown sugar.

These cookies are great! They are really nice to make for my friends who only eat gluten free. I add an extra egg yolk which made them more moist and I only baked them for 10 min and gave them more cooling time on the pan.

they were great i measured by weight but next time i will cut the sugar a bit since i added dryed cranberrys and yellow raisons also i hate making cookies so unless they are xmas cookies i always turn them into bars they were a bit crumbly but not bad and next time i will try adding 2 eggs instead of one since other recipe said 2 so that could be why more crumbly but other wise i am very pleased with this recipe and will make it again and again also i didnt have steel rolled oats so just used reg. kind next time i will try the steel rolled ones

The most delicious puddle of oatmeal and butter I've ever had! But seriously. I tried my best to make this recipe without a scale and double checked the reviews and still wound up with a greasy oatmeal puddle on both cookie sheets. Thankfully, I only used about half of the batter so I tossed in some flour and put it in a baking tray hoping to just cut the baked mixture into squares once they finish. They are still in the oven. Hope this works!

All the reviewers who noted the measurement differences between weight and volume really helped. I used cranberries in place of raisins, but didn't soak them in rum.
Mine were a bit dry as well, but that could be due to skipping the rum bath, over-toasting the oats, or imprecise measurements.
The flavor was still amazing, and I'll be doing this one again...attempting to correct at least the toasting time and measurement precision.

Perfect round cookies. Didn't fall apart. I used dried cherries and white chocolate chips instead of raisins. Delicious! I also soaked the cherries in rum for 30 minutes (on the show he soaked the raisins in rum overnight.

He's not only funny with his wit, he is the top chef of all! He just taught me something about Whole Oats vs. Quick Oats I never knew?! I will never buy Quick cooking oats again! I would like to buy his book on Eat Oats or Die Screaming?? Cannot find it? Thanks Alton, you did me and my family a big favor!

Welllll....... I watched the show, cause I like the show. I made the cookies & they were great. BUT....Alton goes on about how good oats are for you, but this recipe is a fail on that point!! All that butter & sugar????? not heart healthy!!
