Everyone absolutely loved this cake - even my husband, who hates any kind of white cake.
Alton knocks it out of the park AGAIN!

I have never liked Tres Leche cake because to me, it was just soggy white cake. Until now. I made Alton's recipe for a family celebration and now I'm the family rock star! I followed some of the readers' suggestions of separating the eggs, creaming the yolks with sugar, etc. For the topping, I used 1/4 cup powdered sugar to my 2 cups of heavy cream and vanilla, and it was perfect. Not too sweet, but sweet enough. I went a bit over the top - had some fresh fruit on hand - and simmered some fresh blackberries, strawberries, a peeled, seeded cut up nectarine and small peach. Added a bit of sugar and lemon juice, pureed, strained the seeds out and poured into s small pitcher . Toasted some coconut to pass around. I served this cake after a Mexican dinner and it was so soothing on the tummy. Alton, you rock. Thank you kindly.

I was so excited to make this cake. I went to the store bought all the ingredients. I read on another website that you can cheat and just use white or yellow cake box mix, so I picked up one just in case. And boy, I'm glad I picked up a cake box mix. When I tried to make the cake from stratch, I knew I had to convert the ounces to cups. I must of screwed up in converting the amount of cake flour and just used way too much, almost 2 cups over the amount. Long story short, I had a very pale brick cake. Because of my lack of 5 eggs to try again, I decided to cheat and just use a cake box mix (tweeked a bit to make less moist for the glaze, only used 2 eggs and a tad less veg. oil.

END RESULT was delicious. I can't wait to make it again but entirely from scratch next time. But just a tip, you can use a cake box mix and turn this recipe into "Semi-Homemade Good Eats!" Also, you can use less sugar in the whipped topping and use powdered instead of regular.

I love to watch Alton cook -- however, when I tried to make this cake, I realized how much of an American I am. Please use standard measurements!!!!! I've got a tres leche cake in the oven and have no idea how it will turn out. I went on line to try to find conversions -- couldn't find any.

I'm a American homemaker I would really like to see all measurements on Mr Browns shows given in measurments that are common here in the USA. I really hate wieghing my ingredients.

Not sure if I made it wrong, but it is very, very sweet. There is no need for the topping.

Man, I am itching to make this just reading the great reviews. I saw it on TV tonight and just wondering, how can it NOT get soggy with all those milk pouring on top of the cake??? That, is amazing! Well, guess I have to try it myself. Will post back soon.
