We have made this recipe time and again. It is simple to prepare and one of the best homemade hummus recipes we've ever made! We've tried soaking fresh beans (generally not worth the effort and substituting tahini (we prefer this to the peanut butter. The texture and flavor get better once you let it sit for a day or two.

This is such a wonderful base to start making personalized Hummus. I split the lemon with a lime and like the the addition of that flavor. I also like foods that have some spice to them, so I upped the ground pepper and added some tobasco and crushed red pepper flakes, and then some Grated Parmesan cheese. Since I started using this recipe for hummus I don't think I can go back to store bought. I recommend following the recipe the first time to see how it works and then try adding whatever you would like to try after that.

If you have the ingredients on hand this is so fast and easy to make. I added a glove of garlic- I loved it b.c I love garlic but I wouldn't recommend it. I always prefer homemade to store bought, and this was no exception. I would do less peanut butter. It was good and fast and easy...what more do you need?!

I used almond butter so it was alittle sticky. I countered this with some oil olive. I use a manual food processor so its hard to crank but so so worth it.

The peanut butter was a suprisingly good replacement for the tahini paste. I was skeptical, but it turned out so good that my 8 year old even liked it.

If the peanut butter taste is too strong, try this -- when you add oil at the end, alternate between olive oil and sesame oil (I think 1/3 cup sesame oil might be too much. Tahini has been hard to find in my small town, and I only turned to PB out of desperation. The sesame oil gives it that authentic flavor, while being something I can actually find at the stores here.

I've never gone wrong with AB's recipies before, but this one just doesn't work for me.

Recipe calls for one can of Garbanzo beans. What size can? What if I want to use dried beans?

I've made Hummus with peanut butter, this was actually the exact recipe I used. (I didn't know Alton made it this way Peanut Butter makes it taste like well, peanuts. If you can find Tahini, ground up sesame seeds which smells like peanut butter, use it. Tahini makes a world of difference. Use less raw garlic, it won't overpower the chickpeas. Next time I make hummus I'm going to roast the garlic to mellow out the flavor.

The peanut butter short cut left the recipe tasting like, well, PEANUT BUTTER!
