I really love this recipe and so does anyone I share it with. The peanutbutter is an awsome sub for Tahinni paste. Of course it also helps that I love peanuts, Very refreshing for veggie trays or homemade garlic pita chips.

Stop complaining, people! It tastes great, even without tahini OR peanut butter. My mom didn't want to put in any (-sigh- and it tasted just fine. So with or without, this is a great recipe!

Tahini isn't something I normally have in my pantry, but peanut butter is always there. That's why I was so excited to see this recipe on Good Eats. Just made it yesterday with terrific results. I had read the reviews here first and made a few adjustments based on what I read here. I added a dash of red pepper and just added the "bean juice" a little at a time instead of starting with a half a cup right away. I kept the P.B. to a modest two tablespoons which wasn't overwhelming in the final product. I added three garlic cloves which turned out to be a bit too much, so next time I'll go with two. And, finally, at the last minute I realized I was out of fresh parsley! I added about a teaspoon of greek seasoning (with parsley and mint and so forth and was pleased with the result. Will definitely make again, hopefull with the fresh parsley next time!

I made this recipe after reading both the recipe and reviews. I did use tahini instead of peanut butter - I have the tahini and didn't know what else to use it for! I also used frozen parsley (that's how I store any 'extra' and it worked wonderful. Used 1/2 tsp pepper and 1/4 tsp salt. It tasted too salty as soon as I made it, but it mellowed by the next day. I did not try the hot sauce addition, but will next time. Outstanding hummus!

This stuff was great! Easy, tasty, and so simple to adjust ingredients for personal taste. I think that those who rated it down because it ain't your grandma's hummus failed to realize that the show was..a pantry raid. I had everything already in the house and I appreciate the nudge to improvise. Alton never lets me down!

This is a really easy recipe to make. If you can find tahini locally, you don't need the peanut butter, but if you do use peanut butter, be sure not to overdo it. This stuff lasts forever in the fridge.

I made this hummus with all organic ingredients. I love it. I even added a little red pepper to spice it up a bit. This is a great recipe!

To those who are incredulous at the peanut butter substitute, try to think outside the box: sesame allergies are a common supplement to tree nut allergies. For those of us who suffer, this is a great recipe to supplement a creative vegetarian diet.

This recipe makes a good, middle-of-the-road hummus. It wasn't quite zingy (I'm pretty sure that's not a real word for me, so I bumped up the amounts of lemon and black pepper on my next few tries. I thought it improved it, but not everyone will agree. I also reduced the amount of peanut butter to 1 and a half tablespoons; I thought it was a little too noticeable on the first go round. Replacing the peanut butter with tahini would make the recipe much more authentic, but peanut butter is a perfectly viable shortcut -- provided the flavor stays firmly in the background. Anyone unfamiliar with Middle Eastern cuisine will find this recipe to be an excellent introduction; it may not satisfy the already-initiated, though.
