I made the stuffing outside the bird, so I altered Alton's recipe. His roasting the vegetables in the oven shrunk them way down to less than what I expected. Overall the taste was good, but not great.

LOVED IT, THOUGHT IT WAS SIMPLE, YET YUMMY!!! SAVED ME ALOT OF XTRA FUSS, SO I ALSO HAD THE TIME TO FINISH UP ALL THE OTHER THANKSGIVING GOODIES WHILE NOT HAVING TO BE OVER-STRESSED WITH THE BIRD!!!

I made the good eats roast turkey but used this recipe and baked the stuffing seperately for about an hour. Everyone loved it. I used cranberries instead of cherries and apples instead of green pepper but the end result was delicious.

Alton's receipe for the turkey was great. Easy to cook and cooks a very moist turkey.

Was not impressed with the stuffing. Too bland. Some dinner guests did not like the dried cherries. Perhaps some tastier herbs would kickup the stuffing.

I used dried cranberies instead of cherries, and made it without stuffing the turkey. After mixing everything up with my hands I spred mixture the into a small baking dish and baked uncovered in a 350 deg oven for 35 minutes. Except for my mom's recipe, which I lost, this is the best suffing I have had. You may want to double recipe if feeding more than 4 or 5 people or want left overs.

This stuffing is wonderful and can be modified to suit your taste. I used fresh mushrooms instead of dried and cashews instead of pecans. Also, I dotted it with butter baked it in a casserole dish instead of stuffing the bird. The challah bread lends a great flavor. This is my new Thanksgiving favorite!

This recipe ruined my thanksgiving stuffing and put me in a foul mood. It is my fault for not reading the recipe before starting to make it. This one calls for making stuffing in a microwave!!!! YUCK! Come on Alton. Who makes stuffing in the wave? When I tried to change the recipe on my own so that I could bake it, I ended up with WAY TOO MUCH liquid and now I have mush. And I have to start all over again.
Lesson: Read your recipes before starting to cook.

I've made this recipe for the past 2 years and I think I'll make it every year. The stuffing has a lot of special ingredients without being too weird. Rather than using dried mushrooms, though, I use fresh mushrooms.

This stuffing was a hit with everyone. I ommitted the cherries and nuts and replaced them with diced dried apricots and dried cranberries. This recipe will now become a staple for holiday dinners.
