I never have vanilla beans so i put everything into the sauce pan except the vanilla. After its done boiling according to recipe, i remove it from the heat and add a tablespoon of good vanilla extract, stir and let it sit. I also usually just marinate the fruit in the sauce before putting on the grill -- we use this as a dessert in the summer to use up the last of the charcoal heat while we eat dinner.

I love grilled pineapple, and just based on the ingredients in the sauce I assumed I would love this recipe. However, the sauce tastes terrible. The lime flavor is extremely over-powering. The first time I made the sauce I thought I must have messed something up because it tasted so bad. I made it again and was met with the same results. I would not recommend this recipe.

I made this recently on skewers and added ham chunks with the pineapple, which was excellent! When I try it again, I will marinate the ham and pineapple in the sauce rather than trying to brush it on while grilling it.

I loved this recipe--excellent mix of flavors, perfect for a hot day or evening!

I used regular ol' limes--saw some people used key limes--I imagine it makes a difference, but the plain limes were amazing in this

This sauce is absolutely outstanding on - salmon, dry ribs, vanilla ice cream, pound cake, sliced bananas and whipped cream, and grilled steaks. I use plain old limes (usually 3 and let the sauce cool thoroughly on the stovetop before putting it into a squeeze bottle.

Usually I love Alton but this recipe didn't make it. It tasted fine but there's better recipes online and they don't waste an expensive vanilla bean. I couldn't taste the vanilla at all. Next time, I'll just mix teriyaki sauce and brown sugar, squirt the pineapple while cooking and get a good caramelized skewer.

This is so good and so easy in the summer. It is the only way my husband will eat pineapple.

This was a fabulous dessert. Even our kids enjoyed it. We did it on skewers as well as leaving the rind on and eating it like a watermelon. We didn't have vanilla bean, so we used a tsp of vanilla extract. Still yummy!

Very easy to make, though doing it on a grill pan inside smoked up the entire house. The combination of flavors was something I'd never had before, but it was delicious and went well with Dave Lieberman's Spicy Coconut Shrimp recipe.
