The assembly time would have gone much quicker with another pair of hands. The flavor of the filling is great, I loved the ginger. I added extra of all the ingredients to balance out the amount of tofu. This was a fun recipe to make, the dumplings came out delicious and crispy when sauteed.

Not sure why someone comment that this takes forever. They must have a low tolerance in the kitchen. Since there is no other cooking involved other than steaming it is easy. You don't have to do any sauteing or anything.
Also my steamer pot was busy with another dish so I just put a little oil in a skillet and fried the bottoms of the dumplings as I assembled them. Let em fry a few minutes and the bottoms got browned. Then I threw a .5 cup of water in the skillet(yes splatter and put on the lid and left them for 5 minutes to steam. Completely yummy with that browned, chewy bottom. I will repeat this method in the future.
Served wtih soy, brown sugar and garlic mixed in a bowl.
No left overs except wonton skins - excuse to make this recipe again.
Alton keeps up his 100% batting average once again.

To answer a question asked in an earlier review, I believe you are supposed to cover the cooked dumplings and put them in the preheated oven to keep them warm.
As for my review, these are great! Very light and flavorful. My husband and I dip them in soy sauce and my 8 year old BEGS for them.
Thank you soooo much Alton for another great recipe!

My boyfriend and I made these together and had a lot of fun doing it. We ended up eat pan frying them and ate them as we cooked them. They were too good to wait to cook them. We bought store bought plum sauce from a jar for dipping, which I wouldn't recommend. Otherwise, we really enjoyed them and will def make them again.

I noticed on the recipe that you must preheat oven to 200 degrees. However, there is no mention of putting anything in the oven. Is the tofu supposed to go in the oven? Please let me know.
Thanks

I increased the amount of sesame oil and soysauce a little bit. It took me some broken wraps to finally make the wantons right. First I boiled them; it was a disaster. Steam is the way to go. Next time, I will saute the ingredients.

I was lacking a LOT of the ingredients, so I had to make a lot of substitutions. In the end it turned out not as flavorful as I would've hoped, but I'm positive it will taste better when I do it right. This is the third time I've made dumplings, so I'm fairly used to making them. Hence, it took me no time at all to make these. Also, while they're good by themselves, they do need some sauce to add some flavor. Just make a simple ginger sauce - very good.
