I thought this was delicious! I made my compote with mango, pineapple, and kiwi! Couldn't find the star fruit and still was pleased with the results!

We are more used to berries as a topping here in the midwest so I thought I'd try this for a change. Loved most of the fruits but did not use the starfruit. Starfruit causes the same problem as grapefruit for those who take any of the statin drugs. We just leave it out here and the fruit was still a fine topping.

I've made this twice and we loved it. We just topped it with macerated strawberries or blueberries.

Now, if only I could figure out what to do with all the egg yolks...

I don't know what went wrong with this, but my cake burned. Like, burned, burned, black charcoal bits, not just overdone around the edges. This happened after only 45 min. or so out of the 75 the recipe calls for. The middle bit that wasn't burned was tasty, but I wasn't able to get much from there or serve it. I'll try again in a different pan, but I'll be checking it much more often! It was a very simple recipe, especially with a stand mixer doing all the work! Marked it as average for now, will re-rate when I redo. It was a great way to use up all the frozen egg whites I had from making Beau's flourless chocolate tortes. I've made this recipe many times, havent made the topping, i ussually make one with some fresh strawberrys or blueberries. Everyone kept telling me it was too hard to make a Angel food cake, and that i should buy it at a store, this recipe was so simple, and made 2 desserts in 1. I use the egg whites for the angle food cake and use the egg yolks to make 2 key lime pies! (6 yolks each works out wonderful! I've made this for dinner perties, nieghbors and for myself. Real easy to make... i love it

Comment on cake...easy and great flavor, texture. The topping...my opinion...use your own choice of any type of topping.. Enjoy!

This was so good, it is now my favorite cake. The fruit compote is so flavorful and the cake is spongy and tasty! Bravo, Anne!

If folllowed dutifuly, it is terrific. I tried it first with Splenda and outdated cream of tartar. A disaster. Then I bought new supplies and used Wondra instead of cake flour because that was all I could find. I also added chopped mint with the zests. Absolutely gorgeous!! YUMMS!

I'm calling all the fam to see if they are free for dinner tonight!!
Linda, Let me know how the carton of egg whites works out... certainly would be easier than having 12 yolks sitting around that I'll never use.....
    LOVE to Chef Anne!!!!
