Harmatafamily and the other one-stars must have done something wrong, because this is not at all dry (though it is dense, and it is not difficult so long as you have basic cooking skills, know your oven, and follow the recipe if you don't understand baking science. It's not light and airy like a box mix - it is an old-world style solid cake. Thanks Anne - as usual your recipe is wonderful!

Just made this cake...it is REALLY moist, and it took double the time it says to bake. But I just threw some foil over the top and let it go until it was done, not a big deal! It is moist, dense, and delicious!

I made this cake exactly by the recipe, however once you get past the first bite or two does it tase good. The over whelming flavor of the apple cider vinegar is just not for me. I believe I would use either apple cider or apple juice in place of the vinegar. Other than that the cake is moist and the cream cheese frosting makes this a great simple dessert for the fall months ahead.

Thank you for your input on this cake...goodness I was so frustrated. I thought I did something wrong but now i'm thinking you are right....too much applesauce. My cake just would not cook. Too bad because it looked absolutely amazing!!!!!
PS The icing was fantastic and came out perfectly!

Very delicious - I dusted nutmeg on the top of the cake for asthetics, and I put it in the fridge for a few hours prior to serving. Will definately make it again!

The cake is so so so MOIST & perfect! I didnt use raisins or walnuts. Also I added a touch of Cardamum. Yes I bake it in a loaf pan but MAKE sure to do the toothpick test. The toothpick should come out clean after inserted. I made the cream cheese frosting too. PREFECT match the tangy& creaminess of the icing plus the moistness & spiciness of the cake is just divine! I will definitely make this again!

Heavy and delicious. Took an hour to bake until center was set. DO NOT take out of oven until center of bread is set. Reading reviews, I think some did.
Made just a half recipe of icing. That was plenty for us.
If you are looking for a cake mix like that which comes out of a box, this is NOT your recipe. If you like a cake heavy on fruit, nuts, and moisture, this is the cake for you.
