OH my goodness! These were PACKED with unbelievable, rich FLAVOR. Really makes you question if it's really a vegetable you're eating! I think next time I'll possibly pick out at least half of the little rendered bacon pieces before letting it simmer for 40 minutes (maybe I was supposed to do that?? so I end up with mostly just beans and some mushrooms. I just can't emphasize how savory and amazing these were. I know I can't go wrong when I choose to try something by Anne. Love her!

Just made this tonight with dinner and they were awesome! I added onion when I put in the bacon and didn't use the red pepper flakes. They were very delicious and flavorful. Will definitely be making these again.

Oh.my.gosh These beans were to die for!!! So yummy, I could have eaten the entire pot myself! I will be making these for holiday dinners every year now.
The only thing I will do differently next time is to leave out the red pepper flakes. It over powered the dish in my opinion. Otherwise, totally awesome!

My husband doesn't like fresh green beans but he LOVED this recipe. I fixed it for Thanksgiving dinner and all my inlaws thought it was great too. As always Anne's recipes are the best! I'm fixing it again for the Christmas dinner crowd.

These beans were outstanding! We had two picky youngsters at the table and they had 3 or 4 helpings. I followed the directions as written, but I removed the bacon while cooking the beans and then sprinkled the bacon over the beans when I served them. No more green bean casserole for me.

I made a few changes to the recipe preparation and was pleased with the results. We prefer our cooked vegetables to still have a little crispness, as well as preferring crisp to soggy bacon. So, I removed the bacon after sauteing and withheld it until finishing the dish. I also just cooked the beans for about 20 minutes with the lid on and a few more minutes without the lid to reduce the liquid. The resulting dish was enjoyed by all.

I would have enjoyed this with just the bacon and the beans, as my grandmother used to make a similar recipe, but the additional levels of flavor - mushrooms and that zip of red pepper flakes - really made this dish special. Texture, taste, variety and depth of flavor, it was wonderful! Yet another excellent dish. Thank you Anne!
