I love watching Anne Burrell and enjoy her recipes but found this one lacking in flavor. I made the fish, but I thought it needed more seasoning. I will say the batter was very easy and looked great. Next time I will add a little cayenne as well as more seasonings.

I thought I did everything correctly. The cod turned to a mushy mix that even the microwave couldn't fix. I wish I had that beer right now. Where did I go wrong-???.... OK, I still ate the cod mush-it was good -- but I may never get the bottom of my pan clean...

I watch the Food Network almost every day. This is the first time I got up off my lazy azz, went to the store and tried to do what I saw.

Wow, thanks Anne, my family kept raving and raving. I loved the slaw myself personally, with the malt vinegar-y tartness. Kind of expensive though, as I had to substitute halibut for haddock, but that was really my fault. Halibut is pricey! The beer batter was easy and really delicious. My brother could not believe that I made the steak fries from scratch, according to your recipe. He thought they were store-bought. Thanks again!

This is the best fish and chips recipe I have ever made myself, and I've tried a few. The fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The beer batter was perfect making the fish phenomenal. And be sure to make the Red Cabbage Slaw with it, it was a hit with everyone and went really well with the fish and chips.

Tom, the word she used for fish fingers was "goujons".

I recently saw this made on her show and craved it for a week! I could not find haddock, so I used Whiting and it turned out great. My boyfriend was so impressed by the restaurant like quality. The fries were crispy and made us happy. Since there were only two of us eating, I had plenty of leftover batter that I refridgerated. I thought the batter may have settled to much to use again but I gave it a go anyway with jumbo, devined, tail off, shrimp. First I dunked the shrimp in the batter then put "Zatarain's Seasoned Fish Fry" in a zip-lock. I shook shrimp in this bag and added to deep fryer dipping 1/2 first like the receipe says to do with fish. It cooked in about 2-3 minutes. They were soooooooooooo tasty that I surprised myself. Next time I may toss them in buffalo sauce!

Never made fish and chips, but we did it and it came out great. I was afraid the fish would get soggy, but holding it in the oven on the rack was perfect. Even though it took a long time for us to do the second fry... it all came out wonderful and my sister ate the fish, and had seconds even though she "hates fish".

My husband loves fish and chips, so he was dying to give this a try. After months of cooking, I was more than happy to let him. We live in Maine, so he picked up some nice fresh haddock and followed Anne's directions closely. We have a small fryer, so he cooked everything in batches in vegetable oil, but it all worked out. He said Anne's trick for holding the fish in the oil until it puffed up worked wonders. Altogether, even our 13-year-old picky eater loved it. We'll definitely make this again!

Question: what was the french word Anne said for cutting diagonally into 1 1/2-inch wide strips, 5 to 6 inches long?

I think the recipe sounds great and can't wait to try it for my growing grandchildren with good appetites... I think that by what she wrote ,and the way she wrote it , Joan from marshfield, Mass. on 11/09 had a few bottles while she was trying this recipe , not a few swigs... just kidding, even though the recipe is fattening, but after the fast food we consume, what the heck, once in a while....Its o.k.
