awesome way to eat sweet potatoes, we left it a bit chunky, thought a whole orange was a bit much, will use half next time. all else was perfect, not too sweet, just great

There is not even enough to scrap one last spoonful from the baking dish! Made this yesterday when we had unexpected company and everyone raved - Did not have dried apricot on hand, so put a few spoons of apricot preserves in instead. Made the casserole and topping early in afternoon so would not have to do when company arrived (kept separate of course in the fridge and just assembled and popped into the oven - so easy and smelled so great baking :

So, having family from southern Alabama, I grew up with the syrupy sweet potato casserole made from canned yams. Almost a dessert rather than a side. When I found this recipe I was excited to see a classy version of this southern favorite! I omit the apricots - I never have them on hand, they are pricey, and no one in the family likes them in our traditional sweet potato casserole. We prefer the smoother texture without them. The orange zest does add a strong orange flavor which is typical of zest. If you don't like it, omit the zest and just go with 1/2 cup of orange juice which works well. The topping is the prize for our family, so I double that to make sure there is enough for everyone! Thanks, Anne!

I was looking for something to do with leftover honey roasted sweet potatoes and came across Anne's recipe...Wow this is a keeper! I made the topping in the food processor then separately processed the cold sweet potatoes (first drained any honey and olive oil. I omitted the apricot as my husband is allergic and used the juice of a whole orange-topped and baked. Delicious! What a great way to totally transform a leftover. Thanks again Anne!

Tried making this as per the recipe, except I used zante currants instead of the dried apricots and used the juice of just 1/2 an orange (instead of a whole orange. The smaller amount of juice seemed like the right moisture level and the moistness of the final dish was right on.

My final dish was too sweet for me -- I will omit the honey from the sweet potato mix altogether if I try this again. I also found the orange flavor overpowering, I had a hard time tasting the sweet potatoes. Next time I won't use the zest of a whole orange, maybe 1/4 of that or even less. I read someone else who tried using lemon zest -- I think I would like that better than the orange. Lemon would provide a contrast to the sweetness of the filling.

For comparison, I don't like the marshmallow versions of sweet potato casserole because they are far too sweet for me. If you like that level of sweetness, then maybe you'll like this recipe as it stands.

I've made this twice now and think it's fantastic. The first time I made it was just per the recipe, it was awesome! Made it again last night for a guest, but didn't have any oranges, so substituted lemons instead (doubled the honey and added a tsp. of minced fresh ginger, and it was even better! Thanks, Anne!

Sorry, I'd never recommend this recipe to anyone. The topping is overly sweet and cloying. The sweet potato mixture is just usual.

I made this for an office Christmas party. I thought it was kind of blah. And no one went for seconds or even commented to me if it tasted good or not. Not sure what but something was missing, and I made it exactly as the directions said. I had a lot of left overs that my husband tried and he said it was only okay.

This was a big hit at our family's Christmas dinner! We have a lot of picky eaters and my double batch was just about all gone. I did have to omit the nuts because of an allergy but it was delicious without it. I'll definitely be making this one again!

This is the best, most fantastic sweet potato recipe ever. Simple to make and out of this world.
