The flavor of these turkey burgers was amazing, and I loved the crunch the water chestnuts added. The sambal mayo was a great touch, too. I also topped them with some pickled onions I had left over from another recipe from Anne's cookbook. That said, I had two problems with this recipe. I got 5 huge burgers out of it, and it's only supposed to make 4, so I would probably cut the recipe in half next time. Also, they were kind of crumbly and I had a hard time keeping the burgers together when flipping them and such, so I think I'd add an egg as a binder next time. I'll definitely be making these again, just with a few tweaks. And try the pickled onions (p. 161 of Anne's cookbook - they're awesome.
I think this mixture would also make an awesome turkey meatloaf.

A wonderful recipe. I changed nothing and will make again exactly as printed. I didn't need to add water, but I used half ground turkey breast and half regular fat ground turkey. It made a perfect consistency for cooking.

I have been making these since I first saw Anne make them and they are fabulous! The fresh ginger and cilantro make them burst with flavor, and the water chestnuts give them a crunch. We like them without cheese or a bun, but with fresh veggies and rice. I can't count how many people have asked me for this recipe and love them as much as we do!

A very flavorable and moist burger. This recipe is a keeper. I did make one change, I subed worcestershire for the soy because my husband is watching his salt intake. I also added very little water because the mixture was so moist and I let the burgers rest in the fridge to firm up. I made extra onion mixture and added it under the cheese- yum. As a reviewer suggested, I do think this would make an excellent meat loaf.

I thought these were ok. I only used 1/2 of the water and I'm glad I did. They would have been way to moist to hold the burger shape. I needed to put them in the fridge to firm up prior to putting them on the grill. Note that I also used an extra 1/2 lb of meat. The flavored was nice and non traditional. Not sure I would make these again.

Awesome. I substituted red bell pepper for water chestnuts and wasn't able to find the Asian hot sauce so I used a substitute, but it was GREAT.

LOVE!!!
I have made these at least every other week, I love them so much. The flavors are amazing...but don't forget the sambal in the meat and the mayo...it makes it extra good!

Great burger. I agree with pretty much all the reviews I read. Who-wooda-thought? Water chestnuts? Yup! They are one of the key components. The recipe takes a little longer than just putting a burger together because of cooking the onions and garlic ahead, but these are so worth it!

These turkey burgers are fantastic! They were incredibly moist and full of flavor. I can't stand water chestnuts but feel that you should always try the recipe as written first, and boy am i glad i did! They add such a delightful crunch to the burger. I did substitute sriracha because i couldn't find sambal oelek. My parents who have never liked any turkey burger before even raved about these. I will definately be making these again.
