Has anyone made the crust with a good quality margarine instead of butter? I have a family member who is allergic to milk products therefore I can't use butter for the crust.

I made these bars for family and friends this weekend and everyone absolutely loved them. They said very lemony and very luscious, not to sweet and not to tart. Receipe was easy. The pastry like crust on the bottom is a buttery short bread and the lemony creamy custard on top complments it.

Took about five lemons to get all the juice and zest I needed and I didn't have quarter baking sheet so I used a 13x9 glass baking pan and this worked find. They do take time so if you plan to make them allow time for chilling, cooking, cooling and then baking and cooling again brfote serving.
    Enjoy

I loved the lemon bars. I am sure I can put my own spin on them as well, by switching to limes, or even oranges, and maybe a combo of lemon and lime. I have enjoyed Ann and " Dessert First" and look forward to seeing much more of her on the Food Network.

This recipe just blew away the Betty Crocker recipe I have been making for the past 20 years! I love the thin layer of crispiness that you get on the top layer. The lemon filling is just perfect! I have new recipe for the next 20 years! Thank you, Anne!

I happened to have all the ingredients on hand during this yucky rainy day so thought I would try it. SO glad I did!! The almond extract took it to an entirely higher level an added that extra element that makes it different from all other lemon square recipes. I loved the bursting taste of lemon. It a taste that continues even after you devoured your serving. In fact, the first piece was so good I ate it too quickly!! Wonderful recipe!!
