OMG...this pie is awesome. I made this pie on Easter Sunday, but it was actually a birthday pie for my son-in-law because banana cream is his favorite pie. First let me say that I have never made a banana cream pie before and second it was really easy. I never seem to be able to made a recipe without changing it, so for this pie, I substituted a can of coconut milk for some of the milk. I also made meringue (with the eggs whites for the top of the pie. My son-in-law could not get enough he ate two pieces after dinner and took a large piece home. He said it was the best banana cream pie he had ever eaten! I will be making this pie again and again...thanks for a great recipe, Aida!

This pie was dee-licious! Easy to make and the texture of the filling is so much lighter than a regular cream pie. I used my own recipe for the crust which is easy and flaky. I did 3 things different. First,I used light brown sugar in the filling because my dark brown had gotten hard. I think that's why everybody complained about the color of the filling, the dk. brown sugar made it darker. Mine was only a little off color, but the taste was wonderful. I put a piece of saran wrap right down on top of the pudding so it wouldn't form a skin & I let it chill in the fridge, then I put it in the crust. Second, I carmelized my sliced bananas then put them on top of the pudding. Third, instead of the liquor, I added 3 Tbsp. light brown sugar to the heavy cream and whipped it. I love this pie! I'll make this over and over and now I'm going to go eat the last piece! I can hear it calling me from the fridge! Yum!

I made this pie for Thanksgiving last year, and a few times after that. It was yummy.. I loved it everyone I served it to loved it. I'm making it again this year and will probably make it every year. The only thing I did different was add an extra 1/2 to whole banana to the filling. I also like her show. People shouldn't give the recipe a bad rating just because they don't like the show. Get a life.

I get a lot of recipes from here, but this is the first time I've ever rated and recipe and written a comment. I actually created an account just to comment on this pie.
I made this for a family get together, and it was the hit of the party! It was delicious. I made it exactly as the recipe stated, down to the crust and all. It was the best crust ever, the best filling, and the whipped cream topping just drove it on home. And although the filling was darker than normal, don't be put off - it was incredibly TASTY! Unfortunately there was none left to take home so I had to make another one just for me :
Also, I want to say that I love Aida's show. Every recipe that I've made from her has been great (and I'm pretty picky about food. I also like the question and answer segment of her program - since I'm a 48 year old beginner cook (always let my boyfriends do all the cooking many of her answers have helped me out. For all you out there who have been cooking for along time, there are some of us this information is helpful to. Please remember we all weren't born knowing how to cook.
Thanks Aida, and keep up the good work!

I always make banana cream pie from a different recipe. I tried this one because of the brown sugar, which I adore bananas with dark brown sugar.
For those with a bit darker or off color pies. Get bananas within about 24 hours of making the pie. Buy the ones that still have a bit of green at the ends. Dip them in lemon juice or use fruit fresh then drain before placing them in your pie. This will keep them beautiful and bright.
For those with the 'crapitude', ya know no one ever told ya you would love everything about a TV channel. Just don't watch. Aida is ok, I have found a couple of things that her answers were not quite correct but hey no one is perfect. Just change the channel and move on.

This was a very delicious pie! My omly complaint is that my filling was brownish gray. Perhaps my bananas were too ripe? I don't know but the filling and crust were delicious. Next time I make it I will slice the bananas and put on top when I am readyy to serve then put whipped cream on each individual slice. Can anyone tell me how to get a filling with a better color?

I thought this pie was delicious!! The first time I made it , it was good but it tasted a lil weird. I knew I must of done something wrong. I ate it up though it was still slammin! The second time I made it, it looked a bit different than the first, and it tasted even better, I set it out on the table and it was gone within mins. I made it for Thanksgiving and I realized where I went wrong the previous time ( was not taking time with butter at the end and boy oh boy... yummie!!! It came out so smooth and creamy I loved it!! what I learned was reallly take your time at the end adding the butter and mixing it in, it really really makes a difference.
