One of the best apple desserts I have ever had.

This recipe is delicious - I had something very similar in when living in Germany, and loved it - I wanted to share it with my husband, and looked through many recipes before finding this one. Sunny has replicated the German recipe... delicious! I tried the butter cold and diced as recommended, but it didn't mix very well, so I warmed the butter, and it not only worked great, but the whole topping was a warm dark brown.

Great for fall or winter nights. I've used both strawberry and orange marmalade, both of which were very good. Its also nice at impressing people who don't cook much beyond frozen pizza. BF said something like "wow you put fruit in the oven!?" :

Great recipe! I didn't have any problem getting the middle of the apples to be soft but I did have trouble with them flipping over into the water. I'll have to try a smaller pan next time or biscuit cutters around the apples. Overall, I look forward to using this recipe again!

I made this for dessert for Father's Day. The flavor tasted great and I served them with a small scoop of butter pecan ice cream. The only problem I had was getting the apples to soften in the center.

This was such an excellent recipe. I loved the idea of cutting the apple in half because it made for a more attractive presentation than a whole apple and also a much more suitable sized dessert. I follow the recipe, except that I try different jams. My favorite is orange marmalade. It's a perfect take-along recipe, because the apples taste superb either hot or cold. I took a huge pan of them, several varieties of apple, to a potluck dinner one evening, and they literally disappeared and were enjoyed by all. I have made them several times. Thanks for the interesting version of baked apples, Sunny!

Such a delicious treat. Use large apples or the topping & jam are a little too sweet. Of course, I'll be making this again---and 1/2 the apple really is enough.
