These came out fantastic on the grill! It was our dinner last night. The only thing is I was only able to get 4, 5-6 inch rounds out of the dough recipe, no where near 8. The dough would have been too thin to keep together. And I only used 1.5 cups of berries for the four pies. Will definitely make again with in season fruit, can't wait for the peaches!

Heed the warning at the bottom of the page. This recipe has not been tested by the Food Network Kitchens, and should be removed immediately. This is a train wreck!

    Too little crust.
Unstable crust that melts in your hands.
    Way too much filling.

I have not even baked these yet, but I can tell you how this is going to turn out.......blackberry pie goulash!

I think the ratio between the flour and the butter & shortening needs to be changed because the butter made my crust melt basically, so I'm sure you could still get a flaky crust with less butter. It looks horrible but I'm sure it still tastes good. So good try i suppose...

This recipe needs to be modified, big time. Way too much berries, way too little dough and unnecessary use of grill. Dough was sticky and wouldn?t stay together. Out of the 8 servings, I was only able to salvage 3. In the future, I suggest only using Food Network Kitchen tested recipes. Seeing that I am only 10, I will take some blame.

I had some fresh picked blackberries, 1 pre made pie crust left and a couple of 4? ramekins and needed something easy for the filling when I found this recipe for a dessert for my wife and I.
I cut the filling recipe down in half for 2 cups of berries and cut rounds out of the pie crust and baked at 350 for 35 min. They turned out great.

I don't really like pie, but these little personal ones are sooooo good! I had a little trouble rolling the dough out without it sticking to the surface it was on even though I used plenty of flour, but other than that, everything was great! I even ended up with 9 pies instead of 8. The grilling seemed like it would take too long, so I just popped them in the oven at 375 for 25 min. like the other reviewer said and they turned out great!

I saw these on Bobby Flay's show the other day and couldn't stop thinking about them. Fresh blackberries were $4.99 at the nearest store, so I used a combination of frozen blackberries, blueberries, raspberries. Also I don't have a grill, so I baked them in the oven at 350 for about 15-20 minutes. I found the dough easy to make in the food processor, and not too sticky as other reviewers commented. The turbinado sugar is a must- it creates a wonderful crunchy sweet coating that makes these turnovers sublime. I served them warm with vanilla ice cream.

I'm not sure what went astray with this recipe, but I definitely did not have enough dough to make 8 pies, even though I did roll out the dough to 1/4 in. and found that the dough was to wet to hold together when folded over to make the pies, which was surprising given the fact that I refrigerated it a bit longer, 1hr. However, the taste was great but I may try doubling up the dough recipe to have enough next time.

I really liked how these turned out. I did the pies a night before and just baked them the next morning. I'm kind of new to doing pastry dough, so that was tricky because it felt like it wasn't staying together and really sticky, but I tried not to over work it. But I liked the outcome. You definitely have to be a blackberry fan, next time ill try another fruit

My kids and husband loved this easy recipe. I baked the handpies in the oven at 375 degrees for approx. 25 minutes.
