Ingredients

  • 1/2 head iceberg lettuce, shredded
  • 2 ripe tomatoes, cut in eighths
  • 2 stalks celery, sliced
  • 1/2 cup Swiss cheese, cut in julienne strips
  • 1/2 cup ham, cut in julienne strips (or turkey or shrimp)
  • 1/4 cup green Spanish olives, pitted
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup extra-virgin Spanish olive oil

Directions

In a large bowl, mix together the iceberg lettuce, cut tomatoes, celery stalks, Swiss cheese, ham, and Spanish olives.

I have had this salad in the restaurant and loved it however, when I made it at home it wasn't as good. There was so much garlic in the dressing that it burned my mouth so I will cut back next time. Also, I felt like it needed more acid so I added more lemon juice - I will add more vinegar next time. The recipe on the restaurant's website is slightly different so I may use that next time.

I make this using a ham steak that has been cooked on the grill and then cutting the ham steak in strips - it's WONDERFUL!
