A very yummy apple pie. The crust is very moist, so if you like a crispier crust, this may not be the crust for you. Everyone who ate it at my house loved it though. Many compliments, and clean plates all around. Like another reviewer I also could not find Northern spy apples. I used Granny Smith and it came out tart & Sweet the way I personally like it.

YUMMM!! This is a great recipe! Everyone enjoyed it, and the crust was excellent.Couldn't find Northern Spy Apples, so I used 3 Golden Delicious, and 2.5 Red Delicious, and it worked out very well. Took in out of the oven in 35minutes, the crust was slightly moist on the inner part, and the apples were 'al dente', not too firm and not too mushy.. Some people may not like it that way but for our group it was perfect!
I had a bit of the filling left over, added some water and put it in the microwave for a few minutes...homemade applesauce!
The pie was such a hit; i'm making it again for some friends we're having over this weekend, and probably for New Year's Eve as well!

This was my first choice for something new...and all I have to say is Yuck. It came out smelling like vinager...why? I followed every step to the T. And to top it off not enough dough. Oh well who will be next. Warm apple pie who doesn't love it on a cold winter day.

A friend gave me her pie crust recipe years ago and it was sooo wonderful. This pastry is exactly the same with one exception. Mine uses 1 tblspn of sugar with the dry ingredients. Then in a very old cookbook of my mother's, in her own handwriting was my friend's recipe - exactly the same. I remember her pie crust too was always flaky - a trick she never taught me! But watching Bobby Flay on TV do his pastry taught me the importance of leaving the shortening (he used 1/2 butter that time too in larger pieces. Most people say "like cornmeal" which actually works it too much and the flakyness is only fair. This time, with larger "pea" sized pieces..it was wonderful! Thanks!

Simple and delicious! Love this recipe!!! For my own preference, I substituded the regular sugar with brown sugar and added 2 tablespoon of sugar. LOVE IT!! DEFINITELY WILL COOK THIS RECIPE AGAIN!!!

I understand why this recipe scored 5 stars. This is so easy and tasty, a must try for any apple pie lover. I used butter in my pastry instead of shortening. Filling was so simple and came out thick and delicious...great recipe food network!!!
