Ingredients

  • 4 cups blood orange juice
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup simple sugar (2 parts sugar to 1 part water, heated to boiling)
  • 1/8 teaspoon finely ground black pepper

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl. Adjust sugar to taste. Pour liquid into large shallow stainless steel pan and place in freezer. When frozen, scrape with fork until fluffy and serve, as desired.

    You can't always find blood oranges though.

    I didn't have blood oranges, so, i used regular oranges. Instead of freezing it and using a fork to shave it, I did it the... way Giada did it. (Freeze until the granita becomes slushy, about 2 hours. Using fork, stir to blend. Continue freezing the granita until frozen, stirring every hour to form crystals, at least 5 hours or overnight. Use a 13 x 9 pan but if u don't use one freeze it for 3 hours instead of 2 until it's slushy) It's a much easier way and probably better. I hope it was helpful!Read more
